🔵May 13, 2018 - Resistance Dog's birthday;
🔵April 2018 - The Moscow court ordered to block Telegram after Pavel Durov's refusal to hand over encryption keys to the FSB;
🔵April 16 - at the moment the ban came into effect, Durov published a drawing of a dog in a hoodie with the caption Digital Resistance;
🔵April 22 - paper airplanes:
a week after the block, people all over Russia were launching paper airplanes from roofs - a symbol of Telegram;
🔵April 30, a large rally on Sakharov Avenue.
Thousands of people came out under the slogan:
"They want to block our future!"
🔵May 13, the resistance continues!
A new rally on Sakharov. By this time, the hooded dog was everywhere:
on posters, flags, t-shirts, badges.
This is no longer just a meme.
This is the face of the movement.
What happened next?
🔵Russia blocked more than 19 million IP addresses, trying to disconnect Telegram. It didn't work;
🔵By April 2020, the Russian government itself was already using Telegram to publish updates about COVID;
🔵On June 18, 2020, the ban was officially lifted;
Digital Resistance won.
And tomorrow - May 13, 8 years since the birth of Resistance Dog.
The dog, once drawn by Durov as a symbol of protest against internet censorship, has turned into something much bigger.
