Node.js v22 (Current) Released

The newest, cutting edge, major version of Node lands with some key enhancements. v22 becomes the new ‘current’ release (becoming active LTS in October).

It adds support for require-ing ESM, gets a built-in WebSocket client, upgrades to V8 12.4, and includes a task runner (e.g. node --run task_name). This blog post takes a closer look.

Node.js vs Bun: Which One Is Right for You?

In the world of server-side JavaScript, Node.js has dominated for a long time. Recently, however, a new contender named Bun has emerged, promising better performance and developer experience.

They’ve conducted a series of benchmarks to see how Bun stacks up against Node.js, particularly within a serverless context like AWS Lambda, where cold starts and compute performance matter immensely.

Five Node Version Managers Compared

Ideally, we could use the latest LTS version of Node for everything, but in reality we often need to switch versions. Numerous tools let you do this. NVM is the best known, but N, FNM, Volta, or even pnpm could suit you better?

Hono 4.4: The Standards-Based JS Web App Framework for Everywhere

Hono is a small, fast web framework with a straightforward API, middleware support, and that runs pretty much on anything (Deno, Bun, Node, Cloudflare, and more). v4.4 brings it to JSR, adds timeout middleware, and a helper to get information about connected clients.

👩‍💻 Announcing Deno 2

A huge release for the “what if I reinvented Node again from scratch?” runtime. Backwards compatibility with Node is a headline feature, but there’s a lot more baked in. Best, though, is the 😉 epic ‘Announcing Deno 2’ video. After a slightly bombastic opener, Ryan presents a fantastic ‘keynote’ style tour of everything Deno has to offer – I enjoyed watching it.
