Sometimes its not about how knowledgeable you are in exams. Its not even about answering every question asked.
But given you are a student and have a long way to go, you need to do something about your attitude.
The examiners are humans too. They get offended even if how hard they try to judge you objectively. And it directly affects your grades.
Attitudes matter! You should act humble and appear teachable as a student.

Tramadol is medicine, not a recreational drug.
Dear Young People, Please Listen. Tramadol is a medicine. It is NOT a safe recreational drug.
You may hear someone say:
It's just a painkiller.
Everyone is using it.
It gives you energy.
It helps you forget your problems.
You won't become addicted.
I can stop whenever I want.
Don't believe these myths.
Tramadol acts directly on your brain and nervous system. When it is misused, repeated use can lead to tolerance, dependence, addiction, seizures, dangerous sedation, breathing problems and overdose.
Don't let a temporary feeling control your future. You might take it because a friend offers it.
- Then you take it again because you liked the feeling.
- Then you start craving it.
- Then you need it to feel normal.
Eventually, something that started as โjust trying itโ can become something controlling your life. that is how substance dependence can develop.
To every high-school student: your brain and body are still developing. you have a future that is much bigger than one tablet, one party, one friendship or one moment of curiosity.
Don't sacrifice:
- Your education
- Your health
- Your family
- Your relationships
- Your goals
- Your career
- Your freedom for a temporary feeling.
Real strength is being able to say: No, I don't need it. You don't have to prove yourself by taking drugs. A real friend doesn't pressure you to use drugs.
If someone says: "You're scared if you don't take it."
You can answer:
- No. I'm protecting my future.
- If you are already using tramadol, Don't be ashamed. Don't hide. Don't wait until the problem becomes severe.
Talk to: A doctor, a nurse, a pharmacist, a trusted parent, a responsible teacher.
Healthcare workers are there to help, not humiliate you. If you've been taking tramadol regularly, don't suddenly stop on your own without medical advice. A healthcare professional can assess your situation and help you stop safely.
A message to parents
- Parents should not wait until their child is hospitalized.
- Look for changes such as:
- Sudden changes in friends
- Secretive behavior
- Declining school performance
- Missing school
- Unexplained money problems
- Changes in sleep or behavior
- Frequent requests for medication
- Withdrawal from family
- Irritability or unusual mood changes
A message to schools: schools can play a major role in prevention. Tramadol education should not be limited to students who are already using drugs.
Schools can provide regular education about: What tramadol is โ why people misuse it โ addiction โ overdose โ how to refuse drugs โ where to get help.
Students should also have a safe and confidential way to approach a counselor or healthcare professional.
TRAMADOL IS A MEDICINE, NOT A PARTY DRUG.
- Don't take it to get high.
- Don't take it because your friends are taking it.
- Don't take someone else's prescription.
- One experiment can become a habit.
- A habit can become dependence.
Dependence can become addiction. Protect your brain. Protect your health. Protect your education. Protect your future.
SAY NO TO TRAMADOL MISUSE.
ASK FOR HELP BEFORE ADDICTION TAKES CONTROL.
Kumara Duchuma: Nurse

Three weeks ago, I found myself in a lab coat not as a physician, and certainly not as a professor, but as a student in a research laboratory at Erasmus Medical Center, being trained in molecular diagnostic techniques.
Why am I doing this?
In one of our research studies, I came across a disease โmycetomaโ that is crippling a community. In one hospital in the endemic region, it accounted for 21% of orthopedic amputations, yet the specific etiology in this setting remains unknown.
There are also important questions about its possible association with Prosopis juliflora, an invasive plant.
Once we documented and disseminated the magnitude of the burden, we were faced with surprisingly little appetite from Ethiopian public-health research institutions to dig deeper and find out what is really going on.
So, I decided to take the matter into my own hands.
I came here to learn the techniques needed to undertake the first molecular investigation of the disease in the country, to train laboratory technologists, and, eventually, to help establish diagnostic capacity in one of our public institutions.
And lucky me, I am not taking this journey alone.
I have the privilege of being supervised by Prof. Wendy van de Sande, one of the leading experts in the field, while my day-to-day training is in the hands of Dr. Sahar Mubarak, an amazing expert in molecular studies.
There is something both humbling and exciting about becoming a beginner again especially when you are surrounded by people who know so much more than you do.
You ask the basic questions.
You learn with your hands.
You make mistakes.
You get corrected.
And slowly, you begin to acquire a completely new language and a new set of skills.
Today, I was asked to write a report on what I have learned over the past 20 days. Part of my detailed report reads:
โSo far, I have gained practical experience in laboratory safety, working in a biosafety cabinet, pipetting, fungal culture and subculturing, DNA extraction, NanoDrop measurements, master-mix preparation, conventional PCR, real-time PCR, singleplex and multiplex qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and basic interpretation of molecular results. I have also been introduced to sequence-based identification, โฆโ
I know I still have a lot to learn the science, and perhaps more importantly, the fine art of doing it well. But I have another two months to deepen these skills.
And this crazy looking idea of แจแ แซแฐแแแต แแฐ แฐแแชแแต becomes possible when you have a supportive partner who simply says:
โIf you decide it is worthy of your time, go for it. We will manage.โ

YOU ARE NOT STUDYING MEDICINE FOR A DEGREE.
You are preparing for the moment
when a patient will look into your eyes and say:
โDoctor, please save me.โ
Your knowledge will become their hope.
Your decisions may change their life.
Your hands may become the difference between life and death.
Study with purpose.
Learn with responsibility.
Become the doctor your patients will need.
