The use of old Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes has been extended up to 24 November, a senior railway ministry official said
The Indian Railways on Monday said it will accept old Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes, which have been demonetised by the Modi government, for buying tickets and for onboard catering till 24 November.

At least 96 people were killed and about 226 injured, 76 of them seriously, on Sunday when 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna express train derailed near Pukhrayan area in Kanpur Dehat district, PTI reported Prabhakar Chowdhury, SP, Kanpur Dehat as saying. Railways officials say the number of casualties could rise.
