Indian Constitution- features and basic structure
β The editorial is written by Ex-Vice President. It explains the meaning and relevance of a pious wish i.e. Fraternity and how has it become a political principle of relevance.
β Nowhere in the constitution, the term is defined. The idea of fraternity is based on the view that people have responsibilities to each other. It was defined after the French Revolution in the following terms: βDo not do to others what you would not want them to do to you; do constantly to others the good which you would wish to receive from them.β Important for #GS_4 and #essay, too.
β The importance of trinity of Equality, Liberty and Fraternity was beautifully explained by Dr. BR in Constitution Assembly debate. You must read that.
β I found a sentence in the editorial "In a speech in the Constituent Assembly on December 22, 1952" must be a typo, because the debate was concluded in 1949 itself. What's your opinion?

Security challenges and their management in border areas
β India shares the longest international border with Bangladesh. The length of the India-Bangladesh Border is 4,096.7 Kms.
β Illegal migration from Bangladesh to India, which includes both refugees and economic migrants, continues unabated.
Large influx of such migrants across the boundary has posed serious socio-economic-political problems for the people of Indian states bordering Bangladesh with serious implications for its resources and national security.
The issue was further complicated when the Rohingya refugees originally from Myanmar started infiltrating into India through Bangladesh.
β This year one case study(Q.8) was asked on this issue in GS4.
