The news as such not so much important from exam point of view, although can be quoted as example. But, the issue is very much important.

βœ… Ageing

Ageing is a continuous, irreversible, universal process, which starts from conception till the death of an individual.

However, the age at which one’s productive contribution declines and one tends to be economically dependent can probably be treated as the onset of the aged stage of life.

National Elderly Policy defines person of 60+ age group as elderly.

There are many issues associated with old age such as social, financial, health etc.

#GS_4: Contributions of moral thinkers and philosophers from India and the world.
#GS_1: Social empowerment

Every year, on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, people in India and worldwide pay homage to the sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi. Apart from the commitment to the ideal of non-violence, the need to rise above casteism, communalism, regionalism are core values that Mahatma Gandhi professed.
On the ethical and behavioural part Gandhianism has much significance today because society is witnessing the degradation of values. Important article, go through it.

Indian Constitution- features and basic structure

βœ… The editorial is written by Ex-Vice President. It explains the meaning and relevance of a pious wish i.e. Fraternity and how has it become a political principle of relevance.

βœ… Nowhere in the constitution, the term is defined. The idea of fraternity is based on the view that people have responsibilities to each other. It was defined after the French Revolution in the following terms: β€˜Do not do to others what you would not want them to do to you; do constantly to others the good which you would wish to receive from them.’
Important for #GS_4 and #essay, too.

βœ… The importance of trinity of Equality, Liberty and Fraternity was beautifully explained by Dr. BR in Constitution Assembly debate. You must read that.

βœ… I found a sentence in the editorial "In a speech in the Constituent Assembly on December 22, 1952" must be a typo, because the debate was concluded in 1949 itself. What's your opinion?
