Pre covid , household consumption (also called private consumption expenditure) was mostly fuelled by credit and not the rise in net disposable income.
That is houses for borrowing to spend more which lead to consumption LED growth of the economy.
As you know consumption forms ~60% part of the GDP
GDP = C+ G+ I+ (X-M)
C - private consumption almost 60% of the GDP
------- now post coronavirus ----
even the RBI has taken several measures to boost credit uptake like [1].
The income uncertainty and job losses have caused increased household savings ( meaning people are keeping money with themselves)
but the bank deposits are not increasing proportionally.
Remember, Bank deposits are directly proportional to the household income savings. The more people save the more Bank deposits grow.

if households are saving more , but the bank deposits are not increasing , means the savings is kept as a precautionary income due to the economic uncertainty caused by coronavirus.
So even though RBI will reduce lending rates to ensure credit flow to the households , households will simply keep it aside (as precautionary income). And wait for market to improve and then invest.
Thus, increased liquidity does not translate to rising economic activity.
This situation is called liquidity trap.
