Hong Kong's armed riot police have become social media stars in China where women are flooding them with marriage proposals. Although the police force have become despised figures for pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong over the last few months, they are treated like celebrities in China. The heavily-muscled officers have gained thousands of followers on China's most popular social media site - Weibo. The officers are lauded in China for defending the sovereignty of the country. One of the most revered officers, Lau Chak-Kei, 46, has a whopping 774,000 followers on social media and has been nicknamed Bald Lau Sir. He came under fire from Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters for pointing a shotgun at demonstrators outside a police station in late July. But he was invited as a guest of honour to Beijing's grand military parade that celebrates China's National Day on October 1, the Daily Mail reports.

The European Union’s top court ruled that member states can force Facebook to remove or block unlawful material worldwide, in a case that raises new questions over the responsibilities of tech giants. The European Court of Justice ruling is seen as a defeat for Facebook and similar online platforms, as it would increase the onus on them to monitor what appears on the internet, USA Today reports.

Fans took to Twitter Sunday in the wake of the league's response to (center) Daryl Morey's now deleted tweet which read: 'Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong'. Morey's post drew rebuke from the Chinese Basketball Association, headed by former Rockets star center Yao Ming (left). The NBA responded Sunday saying it has 'great respect for the history and culture of China' and recognize Morey's views 'deeply offended our fans'. That sparked fierce criticism with fans saying they were 'disgusted' by the 'pathetic' reaction and others calling the NBA 'puppets of communists'. Others argued the league had 'bowed to communists' because of money. Morey posted Sunday saying he 'did not intend my tweet to cause any offense'.

Winter will unleash its wrath by the end of 2019, say forecasters, who predict chilling temperatures will come to the northeast in December, followed by above-average snowfall at the start of the new year. That means major snow can be expected from New York to Boston by January, say meteorologists at AccuWeather. The southeast, however, is more likely to experience more rain than wintry weather. Snowfall predicted for the West Coast will at least be welcome news for California, where it could help stave off drought conditions by spring. A few cold spells in the Northeast are expected throughout the fall, with more chilling temperatures arriving by December, and then major snow at the start of 2020, reports AccuWeather. An active winter season is expected once wintry weather gets underway, including above-average snowfall from New York to Boston. ❄️☃️
