An outstanding display of regional collaboration unfolded today during a swift water rescue on the Truckee River in Lockwood.

Two individuals became stranded on a rock after their canoe capsized, with heavy currents preventing them from reaching shore.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Sparks Fire Department, REMSA, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, and the Storey County Sheriff’s Office quickly coordinated a plan for a safe recovery. Rescue swimmers from Sparks Fire and WCSAR entered the river and brought both individuals to safety.

Both were evaluated and cleared by REMSA on scene.

This was a strong team effort by all agencies involved, working together to ensure a safe outcome.

As a reminder, rivers and waterways are especially dangerous this time of year. Snowmelt creates extremely cold temperatures and fast-moving currents. We encourage everyone to enjoy the outdoors while using caution around rivers and lakes.

Happening Now: An intense armed standoff in Beverly Hills continues with a suspect accused of attempting to murder an LASD deputy.

A brief police chase has turned into an hours-long standoff in Beverly Hills Sunday evening.

The chase began around 1:30 p.m.when an automated license plate alerted police to a gray Ford pickup wanted in connection to a felony investigation. Officers attempted to pull the truck over but the driver sped away.

The chase ended near the intersection of S Robertson Boulevard and Burton Way when the truck crashed into another vehicle.

Deputy was run over by suspect’s vehicle and dragged. Deputy has non-life-threatening injuries.

NEW: A large bear caused police to evacuate Hansen Dam Park in the San Fernando Valley on Sunday evening, officials said. 🐻

The park area was closed following the sightings. It was unclear when it would reopen to the public.
No injuries have been reported, police said.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is responding, the LAPD said.

The UCLA Police Department is grieving the loss of K-9 Blake, who passed away today due to a medical condition.

Blake served with loyalty, energy, and heart throughout his caree.  He retired in December 2025 after 6.5 years of dedicated service.

LATEST: Multiple gunmen opened fire late Sunday night at a crowded campground gathering near Arcadia Lake, wounding at least 10 people who were rushed to hospitals.

Emergency crews swarmed the scene around 9:30 p.m. after reports of numerous shots at Scissortail Park campground. Witnesses described chaos as gunfire erupted during what was promoted as a "Sunday Funday" event. Several suspects, reportedly more than three, fled into the nearby woods. No arrests have been made.

Law enforcement from Edmond PD, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and other agencies responded in force with dozens of units, ambulances, and tactical teams. Initial unconfirmed reports pointed to as many as 15 victims, but authorities later confirmed 10 shot and hospitalized with injuries ranging in severity. No deaths reported so far.

Prayers for the victims and their families as investigators hunt down those responsible.🙏🏻

NEW: Deputies with the Logan County Sheriff's Office and troopers with the West Virginia State Police arrested fugitive Martin Clowney, 51, earlier this week at a rural farm after a coordinated search effort spanning multiple properties and at least one very confused barn cat.

Authorities say Clowney, who has a history of dressing as a clown during alleged criminal activity as a “tribute” to his surname, was taken into custody while still in full costume, complete with makeup, oversized shoes, and a red nose that “did not improve his concealment strategy.”

Clowney was apprehended without incident after attempting to blend in with farm equipment.

The Logan man now faces multiple charges and a court appearance where he will be required, at minimum, to not to honk his horn into the courtroom.

Tennessee: A Memphis Police officer was injured by a dog just south of the Douglass neighborhood on Sunday.

An officer was in the area of Sunset Street and L&N Avenue when he was approached by an aggressive dog.

The dog was being chased by a group of children trying to catch the animal. The dog and the children ran behind a home and a short time later the dog bit the officer.

MPD said the officer discharged his weapon, striking the dog. The injured dog then ran to a home on Oriole Street.

Memphis Animal Services was contacted and made the scene. The status of the officer and dog is unknown at this time.

UPDATE: The hostage situation continues in Beverly Hills, Matthew Seedorff reports.

For nearly 8 hours, an armed man wanted for the attempted murder of a peace officer has been barricaded inside a pickup truck with a hostage.

Authorities have not confirmed the relationship between the suspect and hostage, but reports indicate the suspect may be a rideshare driver and the hostage his passenger.
