NEW: State Farm General Insurance Company, the largest insurer in California, mishandled thousands of claims related to the 2025 Palisades and Eaton fires, the California Insurance Commissioner's office said Monday.⁠

The state agency is seeking millions of dollars in penalties and a suspension of the company's license for up to a year. ⁠

In response, State Farm released a statement condemning the state's allegations, instead blaming the California's homeowners insurance market and calling it "most dysfunctional in the country."⁠

UPDATE: The World Health Organization is revealing new information on the hantavirus infection that spread on a cruise ship. The cases have turned deadly, killing at least three people.

A cruise ship with nearly 150 people aboard was waiting for help off the coast of Cape Verde in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday after three passengers died and at least three other people were left seriously ill in a suspected outbreak of the rare hantavirus, according to the World Health Organization and the ship's operator.

The MV Hondius, a Dutch ship on a weekslong polar cruise from Argentina to Antarctica and several isolated islands in the South Atlantic, had requested help from local health authorities after making its way to the island of Cape Verde, off the West Africa coast. But no one has been allowed to disembark, Netherlands-based operator Oceanwide Expeditions said.

Cape Verde's Health Ministry said Monday that for now, it will not allow the ship to dock because of public health concerns and that it would stay in open waters close to shore.
Hantavirus is a rodent-borne illness spread by contact with rodents or their urine, saliva or droppings. WHO says that while it is rare, hantavirus may spread between people.

CBP mourns the loss of Border Patrol Agent Sean M. McDonough.

BPA McDonough started his CBP career in 2007. He recently served at the Wellesley Island Border Patrol Station, Buffalo Sector in New York. He also served in Nogales Station and in Houlton Sector. BPA McDonough also served in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, and as a Military Police Officer.

He is a true hero who selflessly served to protect America.

As a CBP family, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of BPA McDonough.

Secretary Hegseth officially puts the Iranian regime on notice over their "international extortion" on the world stage:

"For too long, Iran has been harassing ships, shooting at civilian tankers from all nations, and trying to impose a tolling system. Iran's plan, a form of international extortion, is unacceptable. That ends with Project Freedom."

"If you attack American troops or innocent commercial shipping, you will face overwhelming and devastating American firepower."

General Caine breaks down Iran's attacks on commercial shipping on the Strait of Hormuz leading the U.S. to embark on Project Freedom:

"Iran's repeatedly threatened and attacked commercial shipping in the strait in order to effectively cut off commercial traffic and damage the global economy by obstructing one of the world's most critical maritime checkpoints."

"The regime led by the IRGC is effectively attempting to hold the entire global economy hostage."

Secretary Hegseth says the will of the United States military will not be shaken as tensions intensify with Iran.

"Project Freedom is underway, commerce will be flowing, and America is once again leading with strength, clarity and purpose for the benefit of the entire world."

Secretary Hegseth confirms that the Iranian regime is not in control of the Strait of Hormuz:

"Two U.S. commercial ships, along with American destroyers, have already safely transited the strait, showing the lane is clear."

"We know the Iranians are embarrassed by this fact. They said they control the Strait. They do not."

"The ceasefire is not over."

Secretary Hegseth says America's ceasefire with Iran still stands despite the recent military action in the region:

"This is a separate and distinct project, and we expected there would be some churn at the beginning... Ultimately, the president is going to make a decision whether anything were to escalate into a violation of a ceasefire."
