A town in western Ontario may now be speckled with tiny chunks of space rock, after a meteor passed overhead this week and broke apart in the atmosphere. Scientists monitoring Western University's All-Sky Camera Network observed a bright fireball streaking across southern Ontario and Quebec, Canada, at 2:44 a.m. ET Wednesday morning, and say it likely left a few pieces of itself behind. The team is now calling on meteorite hunters in the area to join in on the search for any fragments, as these samples can provide key insight on the history of our solar system. ๐Ÿ’ฅ
Sixteen US Marines have been arrested for alleged involvement in a variety of illegal activities ranging from human smuggling to drug-related offenses. The arrests took place on Thursday morning at Camp Pendleton, California, during a battalion formation, a statement from the Marine Corps said. Earlier this month two active-duty Marines were arrested for allegedly smuggling a trio of illegal immigrants near the US-Mexico border. 'Information gained from a previous human smuggling investigation precipitated the arrests,' the statement said. 'None of the Marines arrested or detained for questioning served in support of the Southwest Border Support mission.'

China has lashed out at Hong Kong's pro-democracy leaders, calling them 'modern-day traitors in disguise' who have been colluding with Western forces including the United States amid an extradition bill crisis. In a strongly worded opinion piece published today in state-run newspaper Global Times, founder of Hong Kong's Democratic Party Martin Lee Chu-ming and media tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-Ying (left), were criticised for their roles in the city's ongoing anti-government movement and inviting foreign interference. 'This kind of intervention in Hong Kong's affairs by Western forces is inseparable from the co-operation and assistance offered by of a group of traitors. Lai Chee-Ying and Lee Chu-ming are the representatives of these modern traitors,' it said, accusing them of being 'hanjians', a derogatory term for a race traitor to the Han Chinese.

President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday about the 'total disgrace' of people dousing New York City police officers with water โ€“ and called on New York Mayor Bill de Blasio to do something about it. The president weighed in after three men had already been arrested for the dousing incidents which went viral on the internet. The videos show men throwing buckets of water on police officers responding to calls in Harlem and in Brooklyn, and walking away from the incident without making immediate arrests.
