Tonight, I had the immense honor in swearing in the newest LASD Academy Class 472. I commended them all in pursuing what I believe is one of the most noble professions in the world.

I reminded them all that their career in law enforcement will undoubtedly have its challenges, its tough days, its good times, and moments of great pride, satisfaction, and success.  With these daily emotions comes a bond—a bond with one another within LASD…and across all of law enforcement.

Each Police Officer and Deputy Sheriff will soon have the unique opportunity and privilege to keep our communities safe and help the people who need it the most in what could be their darkest hour where we will be the light.

Congratulations to each and everyone of you, and I wish you all the best of luck in your careers moving forward.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Memphis Police Department. 🙏🏽

Tennessee: A Memphis police officer has been killed in the line of duty. Two other officers are shot and recovering from their injuries.

The officer killed was identified as Joseph McKinney.

One of the suspects, an 18-year-old male, was arrested last month by MPD in a stolen vehicle, with a programming device used to steal cars, and with a modified Glock with a switch device making it fully automatic. He was released without bond on those charges.

Another smash and grab destroys a family business in Oakland.

The owners must’ve been terrified, but watch as a 76-year-old comes out shooting at the suspects.
In the leadup to the 2024 general election, those on the political right widely expect big tech companies such as Google, Fakebook, Instagram, and others to silence right-leaning views, much as they did in 2020. The same holds for “fact-checking” websites.

Our hearts are heavy as we offer our deepest condolences to the Memphis Police Department on the tragic loss of Officer Joseph McKinney who was killed in the line of duty overnight.

He joined the department in 2020 and was assigned to Raines Station.
