โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Hornet Crash

An RMAF F/A-18D Hornet crashed during takeoff at Kuantan Airbase last night, catching fire and exploding on the runway. Both the pilot and WSO ejected safely.

This marks the tenth global F/A-18 loss in 10 months, and the second in just a day.

The jet, part of No.18 Squadron, had recently flown in the Firepower Demo and LIMA 2025. With this loss, the RMAF now has seven Hornets left from the original eight delivered in 1997.

Alongside the Hornets, the RMAF also fields 18 Sukhoi Su-30MKM strike fighters (a Malaysian variant of Indiaโ€™s Su-30MKI).

Malaysia is currently pursuing the transfer of up to 38 retired Kuwaiti F/A-18C/Ds to keep its Hornet fleet viable into the 2040s as a stopgap until 5th-gen fighters arrive.

โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ The RMAF Hornet crash is the 10th F/A-18 family loss in less than a year, affecting six different operators.

Tally:

1. ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Oct 4, 2024 - Spanish AF EF-18 (pilot killed)

2. ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ผ Oct 9, 2024 - Kuwait AF F/A-18 (pilot killed)

3. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Oct 15, 2024 - USN EA-18G (2 killed)

4. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Dec 22, 2024 - USN F/A-18F, Red Sea (friendly fire)

5. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Apr 28, 2025 - USN F/A-18F, Red Sea (overboard)

6. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ May 6, 2025 - USN F/A-18F, Red Sea (landing mishap)

7. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎ May 7, 2025 - Finnish AF F/A-18 (no casualties)

8. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Aug 20, 2025 - USN F/A-18E, California

9. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Aug 20, 2025 - USN F/A-18E, Virginia

10. ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ Aug 21, 2025 - RMAF F/A-18D, Kuantan

Causes vary (accidents, combat mishaps, technical failures), but the sequence highlights the pressure on aging 4th and 4.5 gen fighters, many of which are flying well past their design lives. These are by no means obsolete fighters.

โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India showcased eight shiny new Tejas jets but six showed up without engines and a few even forgot their HUDs. They didn't even fit the ejection seat๐Ÿ˜ญ

This is clearly a target drone. This is the 30kg Decoy they keep talking about.

I hate media-centric nations like this. That are just way too fucking desperate to "Look strong"
