Ph.D. Student Addisu Getahun Successfully Defends Dissertation
December 12, 2025
++++++++++++++++++++++++
Addisu Getahun, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Biotechnology at AASTU, has successfully defended his dissertation titled "Genome-Wide Association Analysis, QTN Mapping, and Genetic Diversity of Ethiopian Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) Landraces for Agronomic and Yield-Related Trait Improvement."
He conducted his research under the supervision of Dr. Adugna Abdi.
Addisu’s study provides a comprehensive genomic analysis of Ethiopian sorghum landraces—one of the country's most important staple crops. Through genome-wide association analysis, quantitative trait nucleotide (QTN) mapping, and genetic diversity assessment, his research identifies key genetic regions linked to agronomic and yield-related traits. These findings offer significant implications for sorghum breeding, crop improvement, and food security enhancement in Ethiopia.
Congratulations to Addisu on this outstanding achievement!
