Russians are waiting for ZPutin’s statement.
Yeah, they play that music for background
Ok, I watched it. Nothing new from Putler
Good night 😴
Zelensky: “It’s a good sign that Russia is finally thinking about ending the war. The first real step is a ceasefire. There’s no reason to keep killing, even for a day. We expect Russia to confirm a full, lasting, and reliable ceasefire starting May 12. Ukraine is ready to meet.”
The talks in Istanbul should take into account the results of the discussions interrupted in 2022, as well as the situation on the ground, said Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

Ok, so talks about capitulation of Ukraine again.
Putin has made it clear: first, negotiations on the causes, then talks on a ceasefire, said Russian MFA spokesperson Maria Zakharova, commenting on Zelensky's reaction. She claims Kyiv misread Putin’s statement regarding talks.

This is from one of Z-channels:

The cornerstone of the entire situation surrounding possible negotiations is the demand for a preliminary 30-day ceasefire.

Why are Ukraine and its EU allies so insistent on this condition?

If negotiations take place during active hostilities, Russia will maintain its pressure on the frontlines, thus retaining the advantage of initiative during the talks. Ukraine has already experienced negotiations “with a gun to its head” during the signing of Minsk-2 and the discussions in Istanbul, and it does not want to repeat that experience.

However, if the fighting is stopped and the front is frozen for an extended period, this would allow Ukraine to withstand Russian military pressure even before any negotiations begin, stabilize the frontline situation, and prepare for a possible escalation — effectively depriving Russia of all its leverage.

That is precisely why this proposal does not suit Russia — it essentially means relinquishing the initiative. Moreover, in 30 days the front could stabilize to such an extent that Ukraine might no longer see any need for negotiations at all. Talks are only needed now while the situation is pressing. But once the pressure subsides and there is a chance to repel attacks by military force, diplomacy will be flushed down the toilet again, just like it was in Istanbul.

As long as this key contradiction remains unresolved, the likelihood of a productive diplomatic meeting between the two countries approaches zero.

I agree with most of it. And they say themselves that Putin doesn’t want ceasefire.

US, China to sign trade deal after talks in Switzerland, White House says

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant announced a "real breakthrough" in talks with Beijing to ease the trade conflict. US Trade Representative Jamison Greer said the upcoming agreement is designed to reduce the trade deficit between the countries, which has reached $1.2 trillion.

Details will be announced on May 12th.
Zelensky will be in Turkey on Thursday, even if Russia does not agree to a ceasefireAxios
