#PeoplesHistory | 🇻🇳 Today marks 51 years since the Vietnamese victory over the United States.

On April 30, 1975, and after 30 years of resistance, the people of Vietnam liberated Saigon and ended a war that claimed millions of lives. From Hồ Chí Minh’s defiance to guerrilla resilience, the Vietnamese people and their resistance prevailed, proving that no amount of money or bombs from the world's most powerful empire can crush an organized people’s will for freedom

Today is International Workers Day (#MayDay). This year, as workers’ rights are under attack across the world and the US threatens the people of the world with its war machine, we remember the origins of May Day: a workers strike for the 8-hour-day that was brutally repressed by the state.

“Workers of the world unite!”

The US Department of Justice announced on Wednesday, April 29, that it is charging the Mexican governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya; the mayor of Culiacán, Juan de Dios Gámez; and eight other individuals with participating in activities linked to drug trafficking.

The leftist governor of Sinaloa, professor and lawyer Rubén Rocha, elected in 2021 by the ruling party, MORENA, categorically rejected the accusations, which he considered “slander without truth or basis”.

“This attack is not only against me personally, but against the Fourth Transformation movement [initiated by former President López Obrador and continued by the current president, Claudia Sheinbaum], its iconic leaders, and the Mexicans who represent that cause,” the governor stated on X.

🇮🇹“Israel attacked the ships. It did so by violating international law yet again. Yet another war crime.”

Protests have broken out in various cities across Europe to protest Israel’s illegal interception of 20 vessels with the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, 600 miles from Gaza, and the abduction of activists Thiago Ávila and Saif Abukeshek.

Italian left leader Giuliano Granato of Potere al Popolo condemned Israel’s actions in a mass protest on April 30 and demanded that the Meloni government take concrete action to hold Israel accountable.

Hundreds of thousands of workers from all corners of South Asia took to the streets on Friday, May 1, to celebrate International Workers’ Day or May Day, renewing their commitment to confront the accelerating onslaught of attacks on workers’ rights and the intensifying cost of living crisis.

“Today’s ruling reflects a broader pattern in which israeli occupation courts function to legitimize unlawful detention and state violence in cases involving Palestinians and their allies,” the Global Sumud Flotilla reacted to the decision.

In a hearing on Sunday, May 3, an Israeli court extended the imprisonment of Global Sumud Flotilla activists Saif Abukeshek and Thiago Ávila until Tuesday, following the illegal interception of vessels in international waters and the seizure of over 170 activists by occupation forces.

Both activists are on hunger strike and held in Shikma Prison, according to communications by the Global Sumud Flotilla and Adalah Center, whose legal experts are representing Abukeshek and Ávila. “The prison is known for being used to detain Palestinian prisoners under harsh conditions, most recently being used to imprison civilians abducted from Gaza as part of israel’s genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people,” the Global Sumud Flotilla warned.
