Paraguay:
After several days of roadblocks, Indigenous communities achieved their goal. The protesters demanded the resignation of the president of Paraguayan Institute of Indigenous Affairs (INDI), the restoration of the institution’s headquarters and against recent decisions of the right-wing government of Santiago Peña.

Peña hails from the Colorado Party, one of the oldest parties in Latin America, which, incidentally, was the political base of the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner (1954-1989), one of the longest-serving dictators in 20th-century history..

To better understand this moment of struggle, Peoples Dispatch spoke with Amado Arrieta, a Paraguayan journalist and member of the Popular Party.

Over a hundred volunteers from the Global Sumud Flotilla remain captive in Israel after being kidnapped in international waters by occupation forces during their attempt to break the illegal sea blockade of Gaza. Those who have been released report escalating abuse by Israeli authorities, particularly targeting women and activists of Arab backgrounds, in what is likely to be a campaign to intimidate and prevent others from joining future flotillas.

“From the moment of interception, all activists were held incommunicado, with communication systems having been jammed, some of them subjected to degrading treatment and water cannons,” the Global Sumud Flotilla wrote in a statement. The legal center Adalah, which is providing legal counsel to the flotilla’s crew, echoed these concerns, saying its lawyers were initially prevented from reaching the detainees. As a result, several activists were processed without even having spoken to legal representatives.

🇵🇸 "I don’t want just me to be free. I want the Palestinian people to be free!"

Days after Israel illegally intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla and arrested over 400 participants, hundreds have been released from Israeli prisons, where they endured physical and psychological torture. Dozens still remain in detention. Freed GSF participants have emphasized that the message remains the same: Israel must end the siege and genocide on Gaza and free the over 10,000 Palestinian prisoners.

US ambassador to Israel accuses detained US citizens of taking a “Hamas-funded boat ride” to “stand [with] terrorists”

The 24 US citizens aboard the flotilla who were captured by Israel include Adler, Colston, anti-imperialist veteran activist Greg Stoker, musicians Leila Hegazy and Carsie Blanton, and others.

“When else has a US journalist been unlawfully detained abroad and the State Department has done essentially nothing about it?” wrote Freedom of the Press Foundation on X, in relation to activist and journalist Alex Colston's detention.

🇪🇨 Indigenous Ecuadorian leader speaks out about the attacks from the right-wing government amid the national strike in Ecuador

"We are community members, we are farmers, we are mothers, we are professionals too, but we are not terrorists."

During a press conference about the Ecuadorian National Strike, Peoples Dispatch spoke to Martha Tuqueres, President of the Union of Peasant and Indigenous Organizations of Cotacachi (UNORCAC). She denounces the attacks of the right-wing government against the Indigenous people of Ecuador and the way they are being branded as ”terrorists”, a label increasingly used around the world against any population that fights for self-determination and for its rights.

Thousands of people marched on the streets of major cities across India and Pakistan on Sunday, October 5, marking two years of Israeli genocide and expressing their solidarity with the Palestinian people. Protesters demanded an immediate end to the Israeli genocide and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

The protesters also warned their respective governments to not endorse US President Donald Trump’s so-called Gaza peace plan, announced last week, calling it insulting and unjust for Palestinians.

The UN voted to replace Kenya’s mission in Haiti with a new global gang suppression force after 15 months of Kenya’s deployment, a move that exposes the weakness of the mission in restoring order in Haiti.

The Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti is set to wind down following a new United Nations Security Council resolution establishing a larger and considered more comprehensive force, the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) to tackle the worsening insecurity in Haiti.

The development marks the end of a 15-month deployment that began in December 2024, when the first group of Kenyan police officers arrived in Haiti with hopes of restoring order to a country ravaged by armed gangs and political instability.

Thousands of shack dwellers, trade unionists, international allies, and community organizers gathered at the Fountain Stadium in Durban to celebrate 20 years of Abahlali baseMjondolo (AbM), the powerful social movement of the poor that has redefined the struggle for land, housing, and dignity in post-apartheid South Africa.

Founded in 2005 by 32 representatives from 12 informal settlements, Abahlali baseMjondolo has grown into one of Africa’s largest and most consistent movements for land and housing justice, now with over 180,000 members in more than 100 branches across five provinces.

From humble beginnings in Durban’s Kennedy Road settlement, AbM has endured two decades of repression, assassinations, and political exclusion, but has survived, grown, and transformed shack settlements into spaces of working communes and collective liberation.

Mass mobilizations in solidarity with Palestine continue to sweep across Europe, bringing well over a million people to the streets in Spain, Italy, France, Romania, the Netherlands, and other countries.

Demonstrations have steadily grown over the past two years, but gained even greater momentum after Israel attacked the Global Sumud Flotilla, whose passengers include many European workers and activists that sailed to break the illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip.

“We demand the end of the genocide and freedom for the Palestinian people,” activists said. “There is no freedom while lives are under attack, solidarity is criminalized, and truth is silenced.”

🇵🇸Palestinians and the oppressed people of the world resist Zionism and Imperialism.

On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian resistance launched a historic surprise attack against Israel, involving land, sea and air attacks across Israel, breaking through a nearly 17-year long blockade. The day also marked the beginning of Israel's latest genocidal violence against Palestinians, mainly in the Gaza Strip.

It also marked the beginning of the decay of the Israeli propaganda machinery and Zionist agenda. For the past two years, millions of people across the world have been rising up against genocide and imperialism in all its forms, waving the Palestinian flags in marches from Quito to Brussels, from South Africa to Kerala and from New Zealand to the United States.

In Ecuador, protests against the elimination of diesel subsidies continue. Over two weeks have passed since the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (CONAIE) called on its supporters to protest against the decision of Daniel Noboa’s right-wing government, which, according to several experts, is expected to lead to a rise in the cost of living, hitting the poorest the hardest.

For now, it remains to be seen whether the Indigenous movement will have the strength to continue the demonstrations and whether it has the capacity to reach Quito. This would require an enormous effort on the part of CONAIE and its ability to garner the necessary solidarity in the capital to sustain what would likely be protests with a high cost amid the escalating repression. Noboa, for his part, continues to call for the protests to be dispersed. The truth is that the national strike is not yet over, and the board is still open for new moves.
