Settlement has been a main pillar of the Israeli colonial project since Israel occupied the Palestinian territories known today as the West Bank, in 1967.

An expert compared Israel’s pastoral settlement policy to the mass slaughter of the American bison, which European colonists practiced to subdue native Americans by depriving them of their major source of livelihood.

Phill Campbell reflects on Black-Palestinian solidarity and the recent People’s Conference for Palestine.

“Set in a majority Black city on the final days of Black August, which commemorates the struggle of African American political prisoners, one question came to mind: how does the movement for Palestine relate to that of the Black nation in the United States?

Eugene Puryear, a leader of the ANSWER Coalition gave one answer during the “The Struggle Continues: The Fight for Palestine in North America” plenary. He described an “unbreakable solidarity between the Black liberation movement and the Palestinian liberation movement that has lasted from the southern fields, the people organizing from the right to vote, to the streets of Ferguson where the Palestinian people were doing everything they could to continue the fight against the racist machine here in the United States.””

In what is being described as an outstanding achievement for an Indian state, the Left-ruled southern state of Kerala recorded an infant mortality rate (IMR) of just 5 (per 1,000 live births), as per the latest report published by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India (ORGI).

The IMR 5 is five times lower than the national IMR of 25 and better than most developed countries, such as the US, which recorded an IMR of 5.6 last year.

☭ Communists in Kerala celebrate "Anti-Imperialist Day"

🇮🇳 Protesting US-backed aggression around the world, including the latest in Qatar, the Kerala unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) observed an Anti-Imperialist Day on September 15. The Party also commemorated the martyrdom of comrades Abu and Chathukutty, who were killed by British troops during a similar Anti-Imperialist Day protest on the same date in 1940, for their resistance against British colonialism.

On September 16, the people of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger will mark the second anniversary of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), established by the Liptako-Gourma Charter in 2023.

This is not merely a date on the calendar, but a celebration of a renewed struggle for sovereignty in a region long suffocated by French neo-colonialism and failed Western security strategies.

In its two years of existence, the AES has made significant strides. The expulsion of French troops from all three member states was a historic blow to French neo-colonialism in Africa. The formation of the Confederation of Sahel States on July 6, 2024, has further solidified the alliance, with a joint military force already conducting exercises and its leaders deepening security ties, as seen in the military meetings in Russia in July and August 2025. Plans are advancing for a single passport, a domestic tax-financed new investment fund, and eventually, a common currency. On the economic front, the AES is taking concrete steps to reclaim control over its destiny.

Immigrant worker and father Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez was shot dead in the Chicago suburb of Franklin Park on September 12 after he was stopped by ICE agents in his vehicle. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), alleges in a public statement that he was shot after he “resisted arrest, attempted to flee the scene and dragged an ICE officer a significant distance with his car.”

The fatal shooting comes amid Trump’s crackdown on immigrant workers in the form of “Operation Midway Blitz”, an immigration enforcement escalation announced by DHS on September 8. The Trump administration has officially described the operation as targeting immigrants DHS claims have criminal records. Trump’s DHS has presented the operation as retaliation against “sanctuary city” policies, local measures in more progressive areas designed to protect immigrant workers from ICE raids. The administration has used the effort to sharpen its attacks on what it calls “Democrat-run” cities, with Chicago singled out as a prime target.
