After weeks of threats, US President Donald Trump officially announced that he is sending federal forces to the US city of Chicago. On September 2, Trump declared his intent to send federal troops, including National Guard personnel, to Chicago to address rising crime, stating: “We’re going in. I didn’t say when, but we’re going in.”

After Trump’s announcement about the midwestern city, Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson, a progressive Democrat, swiftly responded: “He just wants his own secret police force that will do publicity stunts whenever his poll numbers are sinking, whenever his jobs report shows a stagnating economy, whenever he needs another distraction from his failures,” Johnson told reporters.

“Chicago is doing what works without Trump’s invasion of our city,” wrote the Chicago Teachers Union on X. “We reject occupation. We welcome investments in public education, youth employment, and affordable housing.”

🇵🇸 Italy stands with the Global Sumud Flotilla!

Thousands marched on the streets of Milan on September 4 to support the Global Sumud Flotilla, to demand that the Italian government protect the members of the Global Sumud Flotilla amid Israeli threats. They also called for an immediate end to Israel's genocide in Gaza and its blockade of the strip. Meanwhile, dock workers in Italy have pledged to shut down Europe if Israel attacks the flotilla.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly dropped the discussion on the West Bank annexation plan from the agenda of a security cabinet meeting scheduled at a later time of the same day, after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) warned that the plan would “cross the red lines”.

The move came one day after Smotrich revealed that the plan stipulates imposing Israel’s sovereignty over 82% of the occupied West Bank, and replacing the Palestinian Authority with “regional alternatives”.
