🇵🇸Global Sumud Flotilla to set sail with dozens of activists

The flotilla to Gaza is back and this time 50 civilian vessels will participate in a convoy carrying activists, parliamentarians, health workers, artists, trade unionists, and humanitarian cargo to break Israel's blockade on Gaza.

The United Farm Workers labor union has condemned the raid at the farm that the UFW has been actively organizing in since 2022. Of the 14 workers detained at the May 2 raid, ten were ultimately deported.

UFW Secretary Treasurer Armando Elenes labels the raids as "shameful employer complicity in the Trump administration's efforts to eliminate legal protections and lower wages for farm workers."

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have intensified aerial attacks and expanded land incursions across Syria during the last few days. The attacks come in the wake of the announcement by Syria’s interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa on Sunday, August 24, that progress had been made on a possible security deal with Israel.

Israel has always employed the “negotiations under fire” tactic to impose its conditions before reaching any agreement with other parties in the region.

This Friday, August 29, the second annual People’s Conference for Palestine began in Detroit, Michigan, bringing together thousands of activists, journalists, labor leaders, and people of conscience.

“This conference is also important because it defies all the forces that conspire to stop and silence our movement, from far right figures, politicians, media outlets and the Zionist lobby,” said Taher Dahleh, an activist with convening organization the Palestinian Youth Movement, in opening the People’s Conference.

Delegations from at least 17 European countries are preparing to join the Global Sumud Flotilla, which will set sail on Sunday, August 31, in a new attempt to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza.

🇵🇸 Cultural resistance is at the heart of the Palestinian struggle for liberation.

Art, music, poetry, dance, theater, and storytelling, have always been employed by Palestinians as a tool to entrench their identity, mobilize international solidarity, and challenge the Israeli occupation, hand in hand with other forms of resistance.

A play titled "Kiss the Flag" was performed in Al-Bireh in the occupied West Bank, to shed the light on different aspects of the Palestinian struggle, particularly the struggle of the Palestinian Prisoners' Movement.

The play came at a crucial time for the Palestinian people, as Israel's genocide in the Gaza Strip reaches its 23 month, while the West Bank and Jerusalem also face significant attacks.

The second annual “People’s Conference for Palestine” seeks to strengthen the growing movement for Palestinian liberation within the United States – Israel’s largest political and financial backer.

“Millions marched to break the siege, flotillas set sail one after the other, doctors risked lives, went through repression, every single possible means to participate in medical missions to provide life-saving aid, and millions of workers, regular people, organized for an arms embargo, to demand that companies like Maersk halt all complicity and stop shipping weapons components to the occupation,” said Taher Dahleh, an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement and an activist in the labor movement.

As the US escalates its threats against Venezuela, youth of the PSUV engaged in a week-long “Basic Revolutionary Resistance Training”.

The training took place amid rising tensions between Washington and Caracas. The convoy composed of 50 civilian vessels is carrying activists, doctors and humanitarian cargo. The Sumud Flotilla aims to reach Gaza in mid-September.

The departure of the first ships from Barcelona was accompanied by activists and artists like Bob Vylan and Liam Cunningham who reiterated the urgency of such a mission and condemned the inaction of states in ending Israel's blockade and the genocide.

Lamees Mehanna, an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), spoke in the keynote session “Gaza is the Center of the World” at the @peoplesconferenceforpalestine reflecting on the centrality of Gaza and Palestine in today’s world and how the liberation of Palestine is part of transforming the entire world predicated on exploitation and war.

“The movement for Palestinian liberation has been able to weaken the bases of support for Israel and revealed the true face of Zionism as synonymous with genocide. There are many millions now around the world, including within the US, who will never believe Israel’s propaganda again, generations will grow up knowing the truth about Palestine. There have been major developments through organizing that we might have never thought possible a few years ago.”
