The Venezuelan government has said that the increase in the reward for the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro by US Attorney General Pam Bondi is “ridiculous” and that it is part of a “propaganda operation” and a “desperate distraction” from the internal problems facing the United States.

According to the US government, Maduro allegedly collaborated with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) “to use cocaine as a weapon to ‘flood’ the United States”.

During the Biden administration, this figure was increased to USD 25 million (the same amount offered for the capture of Osama Bin Laden after the attacks of September 11, 2011).

This time, Washington is doubling the “bet” to USD 50 million. According to the Trump administration, Maduro is one of the world’s most prominent drug traffickers.

"This is a first step in Trump’s march to militarize America’s cities and destroy and subvert democracy."

"Donald Trump has created the fiction of an emergency to turn the nation’s capital into a prototype of a police state. This is intended as a model application. No American city is safe from being placed under federal militarized rule," says constitutional rights litigator Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, the executive director of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund.

US President Trump announced in a press conference on Monday, August 11 that he will deploy the National Guard in the United States capital, Washington DC, and take over the city’s police force in an effort to reduce crime.

The current US administration is determined to abandon multilateral frameworks, favoring instead the resolution of trade disputes through bilateral negotiations, one by one, in pursuit of maximizing US interests. It has openly declared its intention to replace multilateral agreements with bilateral pressure, believing that the US holds stronger leverage in one-on-one negotiations.

Whether in terms of the interests the US seeks or the nature of the terms themselves, such agreements constitute unequal treaties for the other parties involved. They represent a new form of economic colonialism – one that fractures existing multilateral cooperation frameworks, depletes US international credibility, and plants deep risks for the healthy development of the global economic and trade order.

Imperialist attacks make nuclear proliferation a necessity.

Vijay Prashad, Director of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research and Dae-Han Song of the International Strategy Center and the No Cold War collective argue that the US makes most compelling case for nuclear proliferation and that the threat of annihilation of small countries by imperialism makes the proliferation of nuclear weapons across the globe an inevitable reality.

Five years following the mass uprisings against police brutality and racism in 2020, Confederate monuments set to be returned to their original locations.

The National Park Service announced August 5 that the statue of Confederate General Albert Pike, toppled by protesters in 2020, will be reinstalled at its original site near Judiciary Square in October. The next day, Trump’s Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote in a post on X that a large Confederate memorial will return to the Arlington National Cemetery, the country’s most well-known military burial ground.
