🇵🇸 For days, pro-Palestine protesters in the Washington, DC metropolitan area have organized pickets and rallies to “confront” leaders of the now-infamous Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

This past week, a retired US army officer became a whistleblower revealing the violence inflicted against Palestinians at GHF aid sites. Anthony Aguilar was recruited as a security contractor for UG Solutions, a partner of the GHF, and told Democracy Now! that “We – we, the United States – are complicit. We are involved, hand in hand, in the atrocities and the genocide that is currently undergoing in Gaza.”

Thousands took part in a solemn funeral procession for renowned composer and political satirist, Ziad Rahbani, in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The procession took place two days after he died at the age of 69, reportedly due a heart attack.

The self-declared communist artist has long been celebrated by the Arab nation as an unbending voice of resistance and revolution.

🇵🇸Birzeit University hosts Engineering Destruction: Militarization and the War Economy conference

The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies organized the Engineering Destruction: Militarization and the War Economy conference from July 29 to 31 at Birzeit University, in cooperation with the National Pedagogic University in Colombia, Security in Context research network, and the Arab Council for the Social Sciences.

Academics, researchers, political leaders and freed Palestinian prisoners spoke at the conference, examining the roots of militarization and its economic and social implications on the global and local levels.

The conference also explored ways to foster broader international solidarity campaigns with peoples, who struggle against imperialism in other regions of the World such as the Global South.

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa ordered the transfer and expulsion of more than 800 Colombians detained in Ecuador.

The measure caused a stir in Ecuador and Colombia, as Noboa, according to Colombian authorities, did not follow the usual extradition process, but sent the Colombian detainees out of the country.

Dockworkers in Italy secure victory as shipping companies announce the return of Israeli-bound weapons cargo to its point of origin.

“We were informed today that the three containers carrying military equipment, destined for La Spezia and transported aboard the COSCO Pisces, will not be unloaded in either Genoa or La Spezia,” the union Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) stated on Thursday. “This decision marks a tangible result of union action and the pressure exerted by USB.”

Angola, one of Africa’s top oil producers, is in turmoil after protests erupted over a sharp fuel price hike driven by IMF-backed subsidy cuts.

In a country where more than a third of the population lives on less than USD 2.15 a day, and where the unemployment rate stands at 14.5%, the removal of subsidies has intensified public frustration. Inflation currently sits at 27.5%, and over 80% of the employed population works in the informal sector, earning meager wages.
