#PeoplesHistory | 🇨🇺 Today, July 26, marks the anniversary of the attack on the Moncada barracks, considered a foundational event of the Cuban revolution.

Led by Fidel Castro and Abel Santamaría, a group of Cuban revolutionaries tried to take Batista’s second largest military installation, hoping the act and their seizure of arms would spark the revolution. They were unsuccessful and dozens were killed and captured.

However, Fidel Castro alongside the other survivors of the attack and the members of the 26th of July movement, ultimately triumphed against Batista, and the Moncada attack was the spark that made it possible.

Genoa set the stage for new anti-armament mobilizations in Italy: dockworkers protested arms transfers to Israel, while the public rejected plans that would turn their city into a hotpoint of NATO’s war machine.

“The evening assembly was also very lively,” José Nivoi from the Autonomous Collective of Port Workers (Collettivo Autonomo dei Lavoratori Portuali, CALP) and the local union chapter of Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) told Peoples Dispatch. “Around 150 people took part – mostly members of the general public, not just activists – and joined a discussion on the plans to transform the port into dual-use military infrastructure.”

Israeli occupation forces once again assaulted a Freedom Flotilla vessel and abducted its civilian crew on the night of July 26, 2025.

“The unarmed boat was carrying life-saving supplies when it was boarded by Israeli forces, its passengers abducted, and its cargo seized,” the Freedom Flotilla Coalition stated. “All cargo was non-military, civilian, and intended for direct distribution to a population facing deliberate starvation and medical collapse under Israel’s illegal siege.”

🇵🇸 As part of an international outcry, calling for an end to Israel's ongoing genocide and deliberate starvation in the Gaza strip that have resulted in the death of around 60,000 people, Palestinians took to the streets en masse in Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank on Sunday, July 27.

22 Palestinian activists have also started a hunger strike in solidarity with the people in Gaza who are being starved by Israel.

These moves came as Israel's genocidal aggression on the beseiged enclave enters its 22nd month with full support by the US, amid global inaction, and a deadlock in ceasefire talks.
