🇮🇳250 million went on strike in India!

Workers went on strike answering the call by the Central Trade Unions to protest far-right Modi’s 2020 anti-worker labor codes.

Farmers, students, teachers, and other professionals joined the call, resulting in a major disruption to Indian industries. The 2020 labor codes, propelled by the BJP, strip workers of their rights and directly attack unionization and collective bargaining.

But while the Trump administration does its victory lap, Republican Party leadership is planning for a potential backlash to the new law, which remains largely unpopular due to proposed cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, as well as the injection of billions of dollars towards expanding ICE detention and immigration enforcement arrests.

On July 5, nearly 800 people from 17 countries signed a letter addressed to the president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, calling for international observation due to the increasing repression of protests in Panama.

The document, signed by academics, artists, activists, workers, and trade unionists, also points out that the Central American country is witnessing growing criminalization of political dissent, which, according to the document, is reminiscent of the darkest years in its national history. Furthermore, the letter adds that the government is demonstrating an “authoritarian drift”.

🇧🇷One day after Trump threatened Brazil with 50% tariffs on all goods and condemned the “persecution” of disgraced former President Jair Bolsonaro, the Brazilian people were out on the streets.

The mobilization demanded that the government tax the rich, end the 6 day work week, and that Brazil’s sovereignty be respected.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, residents of Mexico City’s central Roma and Condesa neighborhoods began to observe a curious phenomenon: hundreds of foreigners, above all US citizens, began to inhabit these upper-middle-class neighborhoods.

Many of them call themselves “digital nomads”, that is, digital platform workers who do remote work and, therefore, decide to migrate to countries where their salary allows them to have a higher standard of living.
