Free trade agreements (FTAs) with countries in the West would harm India’s agriculture, its farmers, and small industries, claimed one of India’s largest farmer’s groups, All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS).

Over 150 million members, along with other constituents of the farmers’ coalition Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), will participate in demonstrations in towns and villages across India on July 9, claimed AIKS in a press release on Tuesday, July 1.

More than 1 million people in the European Union died from avoidable causes in 2022, according to new data from a Eurostats report.

Of these, over 386,000 deaths were attributed to diseases treatable with quality healthcare, while at least 725,000 could have been prevented through effective public health interventions.

Haitian intellectuals interviewed by Brasil de Fato harshly criticized the decision by the Organization of American States (OAS) to support the international security mission led by Kenya in Haiti.

“As always, these organizations are implementing US policy against Our America,” said Camille Chalmers, an economist and professor. “It is very clear that the key to changing the balance of power in the Haitian crisis is a change in US policy towards Haiti, which currently consists of supplying weapons and ammunition to armed gangs from Miami. This is also supported by the Dominican Republic, which is working to destabilize us. The OAS will not improve anything at all.”

Speaking to Peoples Dispatch, Giuliano Granato, one of Potere al Popolo’s spokespeople, stated that the party is exploring all potential avenues for action, emphasizing that it will not wait passively in the meantime.

It is not individual dissent they are afraid of. Instead, what state authorities and institutions fear is collective dissent that organizes people and gives them the tools to change the status quo, Granato says. This fear is one of the reasons why they would want to infiltrate Potere al Popolo, as they recognize it as a political force capable of posing a real threat to the structures they want to protect.

“If we connect all these little dots, what emerges is a picture of a government and institutions that are less and less tolerant of dissent,” Granato explains.

Turkey must withdraw from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and end the presence of all foreign military bases in the country immediately, demanded the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), in a statement.

Withdrawal from NATO is “essential to ensure the security of our people and the full exercise of sovereignty of our country,” the TKP said, claiming that NATO drags Turkey and its people into unnecessary wars around the globe.

🗣️ “ICE OUT OF HOME DEPOT!”

Dozens of immigrant rights activists protested at a Home Depot store in New Jersey and delivered a letter of demands to the store’s manager.

“ICE has been kidnapping day laborers from Home Depots across the country,” said Jorge Torres of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON). “We are sending a message from New Jersey, all the way to Los Angeles, that we will not allow Home Depot to keep cooperating with ICE.”

The newly-opened detention center is part of Trump’s latest bid to escalate his regime of mass deportations, beginning to accept prisoners a month after the Trump administration raised the quota of immigration arrests to 3,000 per day.

🌍Historic speech by MST leader at the BRICS Summit

João Pedro Stedile, leader of Brazil’s Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST), delivered a landmark address at the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro — the first time that there was civil society participation in a heads-of-state session in the summit’s history.

Speaking on behalf of the BRICS Civil Council — referred to in Brazil as the “Popular Council” — Stedile presented policy proposals developed by seven thematic working groups focused on health, education, ecology, culture, finance, digital sovereignty, and human rights. Over 120 organizations contributed to the process, with key demands compiled into a document submitted to BRICS leaders.

The MST leader warned that the world is facing a serious crisis of Western-led global governance, threatening democracy and national sovereignty. “If we are to save human civilization,” Stedile stated, “we must build new mechanisms of international cooperation.”

Heads of state from the BRICS countries gathered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 6-7 for their 17th summit.
