#PeoplesHistory | Today, we remember the revolutionary German playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht. Brecht's infusion of Marxism into theater fundamentally changed the way it was conceived of, written, and watched.

While the United States provides Israel with the needed destructive tools claiming that Israel is launching a large-scale war out of self-defense, Israel has massacred thousands of civilians across West Asia in the course of 10 months.

At 4:30 am on August 10, Israeli jet fighters flew over Gaza City and dropped US-made GBU-39 250-pound bombs on the al-Taba’een school and mosque.

It is almost as if the Israeli army is trying to gather as many Palestinians as possible in one place and then kill them all.

On Sunday, August 11, members of the Philadelphia community rallied to demand that first-degree murder charges against former officer Mark Dial be reinstated for the police killing of Eddie Irizarry. On August 8 of this year, the first-degree murder charge specifically was dropped, and former officer Dial was released on bail.
In the United States, it is incredibly rare for police officers to be charged for killing civilians. According to data from Philip Stinson, a criminal justice expert at Bowling Green State University, less than 2% of officers who kill in the line of duty are charged with a crime.
“Dropping the charge of first degree murder is a slap in the face to Eddie’s family and to all Philadelphia residents who do not want to live under police terror. Killer cops belong behind bars, not on our streets,” said Kensington community organizer Xiomara Torres, part of the grassroots Justice for Eddie campaign

On Thursday August 15, the governments of Brazil and Colombia announced on different channels that Venezuela should hold fresh elections or organize a cohabitation government with the far-right. Their volte-face came after having called for caution and to wait for the results of the investigations initiated by the Supreme Court of Justice regarding the electoral results. At the time, they had radically distanced them from the position of conservative and centrist leaders of the region who, following the position of the United States, recognized Edmundo González as the winner of the July 28 elections.

Colombia and Brazil’s latest position also sets them apart from Mexico. During his morning press conference, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said, “Let’s see what the court decides. I do not think it is prudent for us from the outside, a foreign government, whoever it may be, to give our opinion on something that should be resolved by Venezuelans.”

Rander Peña, the Vice Minister for Latin America of Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry and Vice President of International Affairs of PSUV, said in a public meeting on Thursday that Venezuela’s electoral law does not permit a second round or a repetition of elections and in response to the president’s call “there will be no second round in Venezuela and there will be no repetition of elections in Venezuela.” Regarding a government of “cohabitation” with the far-right, Peña said, can you imagine if we had asked for a government of cohabitation of Bolsonaro and Lula? Of Petro and Uribe? This is a complete fantasy.

"When we protest here in Peru, we are called terrorists. But when they protest in Venezuela, burning everything they find in their way, then they are worried about the protesters' human rights."

In an address to Peruvian Congress, Guillermo Bermejo called out the hypocrisy of the Peruvian right - which has been silent about the massacres committed by Dina Boluarte's government but supports the "protests" of the Venezuelan right. He emphasized, if you want to stand in solidarity, stand up for the people of Palestine.

#PeoplesHistory | On this day in 1953, the CIA’s first successful coup overthrew Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh and his democratically elected government. British intelligence MI6 worked with the US CIA in this illegal act.

Mohammad Mossadegh was a prominent figure in Iran's secular democracy and resistance to colonialism. He nationalized the oil industry and implemented radical measures like land reform, social security and wealth redistribution.

His popular policies directly threatened Western interests, and the response of the US and British intelligence to Mossadegh in "Operation Ajax" is a manual that has been repeated against anti-colonial and anti-imperialist leaders of the Global South many times since.
