On January 12, students from across India gathered at the heart of the capital city New Delhi to protest against the conservative policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The students say that the policies being implemented by the government, particularly the new education policy will lead to the destruction of the country's public education system. The second day of the hearing on South Africa’s case accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza took place at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on January 12. Over the course of three hours, Israel presented its response to the arguments made by Pretoria’s legal team the day prior.
Friday’s hearings were held on the 98th day of Israel’s relentless bombardment of besieged Gaza. In the 24 hour period between the hearings at the ICJ, Israel had killed approximately 151 Palestinians. The death toll since October now stands at over 23,700, with 60,000 people wounded, as per latest figures released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health on Friday.
