Trade unions and left-wing groups in Italy are organizing to resist recent attempts by deputy prime minister and transport minister Matteo Salvini to break strikes and workers’ protests.

In the past one month or so, Salvini has issued several decrees to cut short 24-hour strikes to just 4 hours, in a blatant challenge to the country’s trade unions and workers’ rights.

The Israeli military continues its intense bombardment of the Gaza strip, killing and injuring dozens of Palestinian civilians, as its genocidal war on Gaza entered its 75th day.

The genocidal Israeli war continues as the United Nations Security Council once again postponed a crucial vote on a ceasefire resolution, now scheduled to be held on Thursday December 21, reportedly over disagreements regarding the text of the resolution. The United States, Israel’s primary global backer, reportedly raised objections to the text calling for “an urgent and sustainable cessation of hostilities”. On December 8, the US vetoed the UNSC resolution calling for a ceasefire, standing alone, despite widespread demands for a ceasefire from its own population.

Yemen’s Supreme Political Council member, Mohammad Ali al-Houthi on Friday, December 22, decried the so-called international maritime coalition announced by the US to allegedly protect trade in the Red Sea.

Al-Houthi said that the US-led coalition has nothing to do with the protection of freedom of navigation as claimed, but is an attempt to protect the interests of Israel.

Al-Houthi also claimed that contrary to the US propaganda, the Red Sea route is open for everyone except those ships heading to Israel.

Communists and peace activists protested the recent move by the governments of Denmark, Finland, and Sweden to sign military deals with the United States government, which completely reverses those countries’ traditional policy of military neutrality.

The agreements will give the US unrestricted military access to many bases in these countries and permission to the US to station military personnel, vehicles, and armaments.
