#PeoplesHistory | Today, we celebrate the Cuban Federation of Women (FMC), one of the largest mass organizations in Cuba, dedicated to bringing equality and achieving the emancipation of women. The federation has about 4 million affiliates.

The FMC was founded on August 23, 1960, by Vilma Espín and other revolutionary women who, with the support of Fidel Castro, sought to create an organization to strengthen the role of women in the Cuban revolutionary process after defeating the US-backed military dictatorship of Batista.

🇮🇪 Peace groups and leftists in Ireland organized a protest outside the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin to denounce the country’s involvement in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

According to the Irish Times, Irish troops are to provide weapons training to the new recruits of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is despite the government’s repeated assurances on maintaining Irish neutrality and providing only ‘non-lethal’ assistance to Ukraine.

Shawn Fain, who was elected President of the UAW in March of this year, has led the union thus far with unprecedented militancy, calling for radical demands such as a 32-hour workweek and pay raises in conjunction with inflation. He has been mobilizing rank-and-file UAW members to fight for the new contract for the first time in living memory.

Welcome to our new series, Voices of Dilemmas, where we bring you key perspectives and debates from different organizations, leaders, and intellectuals trying to find new paths towards socialism as part of the Dilemmas of Humanity process.

In the first article of this series, Blanca Eekhout, a lawmaker of the National Assembly of Venezuela and the president of the Commission on Building Communes, writes about the path of the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela.

"The Bolivarian Revolution continues to exist despite relentless imperialist aggression. It has faced over 900 coercive measures, assassination attempts, an attempted invasion coordinated by mercenary gangs, criminal actions and terrorist actions such as the guarimbas — in short, all manner of terrible things.

It has been terrible, but in spite of the thousands of adverse circumstances we have faced, we have been building something extraordinary and this has never stopped. This is the construction of a new power, a different power, people’s power."

Social movement organizers and leaders from across the US will gather in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 2, for the International People’s Assembly-North America conference titled “Dilemmas of Humanity: A Socialist Horizon”.

This conference will take place in the context of dire financial hardships for the people of the US. The US Census reports that out of over 230 million people surveyed, nearly 70% struggle to pay basic weekly living expenses. Wage stagnation has plagued the US working class since the inauguration of the neoliberal era in the early 1970s, and workers today are still enduring poor working conditions brought about by deindustrialization and the decimation of unionized labor.
