🇨🇺 On the 97th birthday of the legendary Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro, José Ernesto Novaez Guerrero writes about the commander of the Cuban revolution, his significance for the people of Cuba and Latin America, and how he triumphed over countless bourgeois and imperialist attacks.

"In the midst of that political whirlwind, Fidel knew how to lead and express the moods and expectations of the people and the members of the revolutionary leadership. He knew how to build the necessary unity among the revolutionary forces and to maneuver firmly on the international scene."

🇦🇷 With more than 92% of the votes counted, the far-right Liberty Advances presidential ticket maintained its lead with just over 30% of the total vote share in the PASO, or primary, elections held in Argentina on Sunday August 13.

The second and third place coalitions were also defining their presidential tickets in these PASO elections. In the Together for Change coalition former Security Minister Patricia Bullrichi, who had received the support of former president Mauricio Macri, was victorious over Buenos Aires City Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta. In Union for the Homeland, Sergio Massa, who was backed by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, won the contest against social leader Juan Grabois.

#PeoplesHistory | Today we remember the revolutionary German playwright and poet, Bertolt Brecht.

During the Nazi regime in Germany, Brecht fled the country and ended up exiled in the US, where he was surveilled by the FBI and eventually subpoenaed by the House Un-American Activities Committee.

He returned to East Germany where he is known for creating what is now referred to as "epic theater" or "dialectical theater," which encouraged audiences to confront sociopolitical issues instead of simply being observers.

🇿🇲 Activists from different organizations such as the People's Forum, Friends of the Congo, ANSWER Coalition, Friends of Swazi Freedom, Black Men Build, protested outside the global headquarters of investment firm BlackRock in New York City to demand it cancel Zambia's debt.

70% of Zambia's debt is held by Western institutions, and 220 million is held by investment giant BlackRock. In 2021, Zambia was diverting half of its entire public income to paying its external debts. Activists argue that BlackRock, which is worth USD 10 trillion, could easily cancel the debt and allow Zambia to develop.
