#PeoplesHistory | Today, we remember the victims of the La Cantuta massacre, one of the crimes against humanity for which US-backed far-right former president Alberto Fujimori is in prison.

On July 18, 1992, the paramilitary organization of the Peruvian army, Grupo Colina, kidnapped, tortured, and killed nine students and a teacher of the Universidad Nacional de Educación Enrique Guzmán y Valle, an educational institution in the La Cantuta sector of Lima.

In retaliation for an attack by the militant group Sendero Luminoso, the Peruvian army attacked La Cantuta University, which was a stronghold of leftist groups. In later trials, it was proved that none of the victims had any connections to militant groups.

Over 30 years later, families haven't been able to find the bodies of all the victims. People continue to fight for justice, truth and reparations.
