50 ሚሊዮን ዶላር በቀረበበበት ጨረታ ላይ 11 ባንኮች የውጭ ምንዛሪ ድልድል አግኝተዋል።

ይህ አሁን ይፋ የተደረገው የምንዛሪ ተመን፣ ከሁለት ሳምንት በፊት በተካሄደው 7ኛው ዙር የውጭ ምንዛሪ ጨረታ ከተመዘገበው 134.95 ብር የአሜሪካ ዶላር አማካይ ዋጋ ጋር ሲነፃፀር፣ የብር የመግዛት አቅም በ1.6786 ብር መቀነሱን ያሳያል።

NBE Audit Reveals Soaring Money Supply and Growing Fiscal Pressures

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has published its latest annual financial disclosure, verified by an independent auditor, offering a detailed look into the country’s monetary trajectory over the past five years. The findings point to a dramatic 200 percent increase in money supply, raising concerns over inflation and macroeconomic stability.

One of the report’s key revelations is the NBE’s provision of ETB 700 billion in direct advances to the Ministry of Finance between 2019 and 2024. The volume of cash circulating in Ethiopia’s economy has more than doubled, climbing from around ETB trillion five years ago to ETB 2.7 trillion by the end of the last fiscal year in June 2024. This surge has fueled macroeconomic imbalances, prompting renewed calls for policy reform and tighter fiscal discipline.

Encouragingly, the current fiscal year marks a turning point. For the first time in recent years, the federal government has refrained from taking direct loans from the National Bank.

The USD/ETB black-market rate has climbed sharply to 160.75 Br/USD, up 0.37% as of this evening. This marks a significant rise from around 157 Br just two days ago. The swift jump reinforces that demand continues to outpace supply in the informal market.

🕰️ Past Analysis
In late May, the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) expanded FX access—raising personal travel limits to $10K and business travel to $15K, while capping bank FX fees at 4%. This move brought a two-week stabilization in black-market rates

However, once banks exhausted their FX supplies, demand returned to informal channels, triggering the recent upward breakout. Persistent demand from importers, remitters, travelers, and students has kept pressure on rates.

🏦 NBE Auction Strategy
The NBE has maintained a schedule of biweekly FX auctions to supply foreign currency:
June 5: $50M sold at 134.95 Br/USD
June 19: $50–60M latest auction cleared at 136.63 Br/USD


While these interventions signal proactive policy, the official rate remains ~24 Birr cheaper than the parallel market, limiting their impact on alleviating informal shortages.

Supply-side figures show ~12K USD available at 160 Br, but demand is concentrated at 155–158 Br, with tens of thousands of dollars lined up—underscoring a clear structural imbalance and persistent upward pressure.

ዳኛውም "ምስክር አለህ?" ሲሉ ጠየቁት። ሰውየውም "የለኝም፤ ገንዘቡን በድብቅ ነው የሰጠሁት።" ሲል መለሰ። ዳኛውም "እንግዲያውስ ገንዘቡን ወደሰጠህበት ቦታ ሄደህ፣ እጠይቀው ዘንድ፣ ከዚያ ቦታ አንድ እፍኝ አፈር ይዘህልኝ ና።" አሉት።

ሰውየው በዚህ ጥያቄ ቢገረምም በታዘዘው መሰረት ከዚያ ቦታ አንድ እፍኝ አፈር ሊያመጣ ሄደ።

እሱ ሄዶ ሳለ ዳኛው ወደ ተበዳሪው ዞረው፦ "አሁን ቦታው የሚደርስ ይመስልሃል?" ብለው ጠየቁት። ሰውየውም በፍጥነት "አይ፤ ቦታው ከዚህ በጣም የራቀ ነው።" ሲል መለሰ።

ዳኛውም እየሳቁ "ቦታው ሩቅ መሆኑን እንዴት አወቅክ... እዛ ሄደህ ገንዘቡን ካልተቀበልክ በቀር?" አሉት።

የኢትዮጵያ ሀገር አቀፍ የዋጋ ግሽበት በግንቦት ወር 2017 ላይ ሳይቀየር በ14.4 በመቶ መመዝገቡን የኢትዮጵያ ስታትስቲክስ መረጃ አመልክቷል።

ይህ አሃዝ ከሚያዝያ ወር የዋጋ ግሽበት ጋር ተመሳሳይ መሆኑን መረጃው ያሳያል።

በወሩ ከተመዘገበው አጠቃላይ የዋጋ ግሽበት ውስጥ የምግብ ነክ ዕቃዎች የዋጋ ግሽበት 12.1 በመቶ ድርሻ ሲይዝ፣ ምግብ ነክ ያልሆኑ ዕቃዎች ደግሞ 17.8 በመቶ መመዝገቡ ታውቋል። ይህ የሚያሳየው ምግብ ነክ ባልሆኑ ምርቶች ላይ ያለው የዋጋ ጭማሪ ከምግብ ነክ ምርቶች በበለጠ ፍጥነት መጨመሩን ነው። #Capital

Gada Bank Listed on the Ethiopian Stock Exchange (ESX)

Gada Bank has become the second bank to be publicly listed on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX). The bank has placed 1.23 million shares on the market, demonstrating its confidence in Ethiopia’s new capital market.

The listing is not intended to raise new capital, but to provide liquidity to existing shareholders and increase market visibility says the Bank.

“This is a testament to the effectiveness of the market; we are building trust,” said ESX CEO Mr. Tilahun Esmael Kassahun .

Gada Bank was established in 2021 and began operations in 2022, and in 2023/24, it posted a net profit of 115 million birr. Its total assets reached over 6.1 billion birr.

The bank’s CEO, Wolde Bulto, described the listing as “a major milestone not only for the bank but for the entire financial system.”

Chairman of the board, Hassan Hussein, said, “We are not only growing, but we are becoming more transparent and accountable.”
