Patrick Casey pinned «Good morning everyone—be sure to read my piece in The American Sun on the importance of online anonymity. Platform access is crucial but it’s only half of the battle. https://theamericansun.com/2022/04/13/in-defense-of-anonymity/»

Elon Musk buying Twitter could change things for the better. But as the exchange above shows, it could also change things for the worse.

Right-wing Twitter is great because of anonymity. Take that away and it loses its magic.

I wrote about the importance of anonymity here recently: https://theamericansun.com/2022/04/13/in-defense-of-anonymity/

Also, bear in mind that woke management is but one factor in the sorry state of big tech and the private sector overall. Civil rights law and other pressure from the state, media, NGOs, etc. is arguably more significant. If Elon attempted to improve Twitter, he might not even be able to.

Nevertheless, so long as Elon doesn’t do away with anonymity on the platform and actually protects against unjust suspensions, it’s worth a shot.

Restoring Order - EP 211: Grooming, Evil, and the Managerial State (ft. Auron MacIntyre)

I'm joined by Auron MacIntyre for a broad discussion on whether the grooming label is justified, the nature of evil, the managerial state, NRx, democracy, and much more.

This is definitely one of the best interviews I've done, one you don't want to miss!

Manipulating procedural outcomes applies to attempted hostile takeovers. Who knew.

Curious to see how Elon responds to this...

This is a good point. Challenging power activates its immune response. If you don't win, the institution in question often winds up with an excuse to seize further power.

In this instance, a failed attempt by Elon Musk could actually make the platform double down on bad policies and make it harder for someone else to successfully attempt something similar in the future.

As I said in chat earlier, this Musk stuff performative until action is taken. I doubt a man who gives no loyalty or care about the nation he was born in is going to care for me or anyone else.

If something improves, cool, if not, then be prepared, because when rogue elites don't cross the Rubicon the consequences are never good.

"What if you can't get Twitter?"

"We go to Plan B."

"Elaborate on that."

"No."

It's going to be a huge letdown if this was all a ploy by Elon to make money—not saying it is, but it's of course a possible outcome.
