Good thread from Evan. Any serious populist agenda must entail using the state to dismantle globalist NGOs, which are little more than vehicles for oligarchic interests.

the entirety of the activist left is downstream from a small number of immensely powerful foundations (ford, gates, open society, carnegie, tides, etc). If a rightwing government ever 'took them to task' the culture would change overnight, dont let anyone…

In what sense do progressives not believe that politics cannot be based around a conception of the Good? They have a rigid, insane moral system, which they are imperialistically forcing upon the world.
This reveals two things:
1. Much discussion on the right about “liberalism” is useless because it conflates classical liberalism with modern leftism—the two are very different.
2. A politics rooted in “the Good” may sound appealing, but the truth is that there are many Goods—who will determine which Good will be enshrined in law? Even within Catholic circles, much disagreement can be found politically.
I’m not a moral relativist by any means, but keep in mind that certain post-liberals support mass immigration. These aren’t necessarily people we want defining the Good.

Yes, good point. Some of these types support vax mandates and cite “the common good” as a justification.
I do believe that the state has a role to play in promoting virtue, which is why I identify more with the conservative tradition than liberalism, but I’m wary about *who* gets to use state power to enforce morality.

Liberalism (classical): Free speech, protections for dissidents, limits on state power, property rights
Does this sound like the ruling ideology we’re up against? Just call it leftism or globalism! Liberalism isn’t perfect, but pretending our elites are owning us with Lockean philosophy is just goofy.

To be clear, what passes for liberalism today on the left is bad. It's okay to call these people liberals. The issue is acting as if there is one big Liberalism™ that includes classical liberalism, libertarianism, progressivism, wokeness, socialism, etc. These various ideologies are related in some ways, sure, but calling everything you dislike liberalism doesn't help you understand the world.

Common Good Conservatism
Is there one common good? Should the state be used to enforce morality?
