In all seriousness, TDKR is great, though I agree with Greg Johnson that it isn’t quite as good as TDK. Perhaps most interesting is how Bane, though a Traditionalist, cynically utilizes Leftism in his attempt to destroy Gotham. It’s almost as if riling up the mob is a time-tested way to destabilize society—something our ruling class understands well, unfortunately for us!

The trilogy ends ambiguously. But we can probably assume that Gotham continues to be a cesspool of corruption and decadence. Though Batman saves Gotham from Bane, he can’t ultimately save Gotham from itself. Perhaps his retirement thus constitutes a concession that Gotham is beyond saving—a way for him to slink out, without having to admit that the League of Shadows was right all along.
