Groyperstan: Internet Culture and Offline Politics

Recently, I've seen people express concern about groyper culture playing an increasingly central role in the America First movement. The motivations of those voicing such concerns vary; some want our endeavor to succeed, whereas others want it to fail. Regardless, this raises a broader question: To what extent, if any, should internet culture define an offline political movement?

More from the article:

"Kekistan is a perfect example of this. After the 2016 election, Sargon of Akkad participated in the creation of Kekistan, an internet 'movement' based around Pepe, Kek, and a fictional country for which the movement was named. Kekistan in a sense represented the death of the 2016 election's internet culture. What began as an organic internet niche became official and institutionalized in Kekistan. Throughout 2017 and 2018, we saw people from the Alt-Lite waving around Kekistan flags, adorning themselves with Kekistan paraphernalia, etc. It was irredeemably silly.

Could this happen with the groyper stuff? Possibly. Some drew the comparison between Kekistan and the upcoming Groyper Leadership Summit, raising concerns about whether or not the Groyper War could transition into something as painfully embarrassing as Kekistan. I'll say this, though: That's not going to happen on my watch. Although I don't have control over everything, alas, I will do what I can to prevent this from happening. The GLS was always intended to be a one-time thing. We have no plans to hold future groyper-themed events, nor would I ever tolerate people showing up to public meetings dressed as groypers. The Groyper War was an immense victory, but going forward I think the groyper stuff should be relegated to the strange and wondrous world of the internet. As I've stated previously, I have no interest in participating in the Groyper Identity Movement. I do, however, see considerable potential in the America First movement, which is why I'm doing everything I can to ensure that it succeeds."
