Actually, the "general purpose" social networks (whatever kind of content they are focused on) are the most beautiful pieces of modern software. Not because of their technical capabilities, but because of the way they play our instincts engaging us.
Existing social netowrks like Facebook or Twitter perfectly do their job making people create and consume content, providing only platform, while the most of other product should invest into content themselves to stay people engaged.
It's probably even hard to imagine software products with the greater customer lifetime and even customer fear to loose access to the product. You can loose your phone — but you can't use your social profile.
We at OwlMeans had to be crazy to decide to build a new social network with the scarce resources we have.
Nevertheless, we have a quite a noble goal. Apart from natural desire to make some money at the end, our mission is to move forward ideas of self-sovereign identity, which I believe can reduce the corruption and the role of governments (and especially their cost) in our life.
Apparently, this is why I talked so much about personal data safety for people in ID Karma.
Today I'd like to share my initial — back of the envelope — analysis of how to build a great social network. Niche social network. Through the number of logical and anthropological (not so scientific in reality as it could sound) consideration I figured out some tricks that could logically and (I hope) harmonically extend the idea of "general purpose" social network to something more niche, but even more engaging.
So, let me share an article about background mind mechanics behind social networks.
This particular version isn't final analysis, this is more like an outline a sources for brainstorm. And it makes them even more interesting to study and even to argue with.
