The Porpuse of this Channel

This channel will be dedicated to the Eastern Orthodox approach to the Nation and Nationalism. This channel will show how Saints and the Church, in history, have approached Nationalism and supported it. I will also show Nationalistic views opposed by the Church. In this modern age the love for one's homeland remains essential and I hope this channel will show how it was expressed by Church.

National Unity or Human Unity?
What appears to our understanding to be antinomic - the human and the national in conflict with one another, or, in other words, the identity among people and the distinction among nations ‐ are in reality inseparably united in the most intimate and mysterious way, with both being fully preserved; only a simplistic mind disregards one or the other of the terms of the antinomy. It follows from this that harmony among nations is not excluded but very much possible, for they are the same humanity existing in different forms, necessarily determined in one way here and in another there. Nations are, in their essence, eternal in God. God wills them all. In each, He reveals a nuance of His infinite spirituality.

– St. Dumitru Stăniloae, Ortodoxie Și Românism, 1934

Nationalism, taken in and of itself, neither saves nor destroys. But in practice, any form of nationalism either saves or destroys, depending on whether or not it is imbued with the Christian faith.
– St. Dumitru Stăniloae, Ortodoxie Și Românism, 1937

Love your personal enemies, hate the enemies of Christ, destroy the enemies of the Fatherland.

– St. Philaret of Moscow

He loved his fatherland, and he would say that "a country is like one big family." He did not wish for national grandeur, glory, or might in the worldly sense, but for peace, spiritual growth, and a good moral life among the Greek citizens, so that God might help them. And he did not desire safety so that people could enjoy comforts.
Saint Paisios of Mount Athos, by Hieromonk Isaac

We are children of God and people of the Aryan race, to whom fate has assigned the honorable role of being the main bearer of Christianity in the world. We are members of the great Slavic family, which for many centuries has vigilantly kept watch at the gates of Europe, so that tribes of a weaker race and lower faith would not disturb baptized Europe in its peaceful development and progress. We are a baptized people, a Christ-bearing people. And so, we are Aryans by blood, Slavs by surname, Serbs by name, and Christians by heart and spirit.

- St. Nikolaj Velimirović
Speech on Vidovdan "Whose are you, small Serbian people?" year 1939.

St. Nikolaj on Miscegenation:
...[the state] loses in intensity of spiritual and moral strength; for it becomes a mixture of blood, language, and mood, and such a mixture produces fear, restlessness, selfishness, robbery, and a feeling of constant insecurity.

- St. Nikolaj Velimirović
Nationalism of Saint Sava, year 1935.
