Our sense of smell 👃is more sensitive and immediate than any of our other senses, which is why aromas can be so evocative. 🌸

Chemicals in a scent can trigger physiological responses and affect our mental state. These combined effects enable aromatic oils to work holistically on mind, body, and spirit, bringing balance, healing, and an often profound sense of wellbeing. 🙌

❇️ Wellbeing and mood. Eg. chamomile essential oil is calming and can help to balance emotions.

❇️ Concentration and focus. Eg. rosemary essential oil can clear the mind, enhance focus.

❇️ Relaxation. Eg. lavender essential oil has deeply relaxing properties.

❇️ Balance and energy. Eg. grapefruit essential oil has an energising and stimulating effect on the body and mind.
At OPLA we find the smell of lavender so soothing.

🌸 The Egyptians used lavender for mummification and as a perfume. We found out, apparently when King Tut’s tomb was opened in 1923, there was still a faint scent of lavender, that was detected after 3,000 years! 😮

Some of the benefits are:

Improves mood and can reduce stress
Traditionally, lavender has been used to treat neurological issues like migraines, stress, anxiety and depression, so it’s exciting to see that the research is finally catching up to history.

Supports brain function
The neurological benefits of lavender essential oil don’t stop at its ability to treat depression and boost mood.

Heals burns and cuts
Widely known for its antimicrobial properties. For centuries lavender oil has been used to prevent various infections and combat bacterial and fungal disorders.

💡PS. Add 3-5 drops of lavender oil into a diffuser 💧 with a ratio of 100ml water, to ease sinus congestion and breathing.

🌸 The quickest way to absorb essential oils is by inhaling their aroma. 👃
This has a direct effect on the brain.

👉 Studies show that inhaling a scent has an immediate effect on the brain's activity.

Scent breach the blood-brain barrier (the brain's protective membrane), accessing centres in the brain linked to conscious thought, and also reaching the limbic system - the brain's emotional switchboard. This is where memory and emotions reside. Aldo impulses such as "fight or flight", nurturing, hunger, and arousal are controlled. The limbic system is also linked to hormones.

With its wide range of uses, in Western herbal medicine its main areas of application are the respiratory problems, digestive complaints and the prevention and treatment of infection.

In the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia it is indicated for dyspepsia, children’s diarrhoea, laryngitis, tonsillitis and enuresis in children.
