The ESSS Citizen Science Project is Back!

Hunt Asteroids from Home!🪨🔭

Did you know you can discover real asteroids without leaving your house? The Ethio-Asteroid Hunters program is back for 2026, and we are looking for dedicated volunteers to join the mission.

Analyze real-time data from the PAN-STARRS telescope and help the global astronomical community map the universe. If you find a new asteroid, it’s a contribution to science that lasts forever!

Collaboration Partners:
Organized by the ESSS, in collaboration with PACS e-Lab and the International Asteroid Search Collaboration (IASC).

Requirements:
💻 Equipment: Laptop/Desktop with Windows OS.

🌐 Internet: Reliable connection.

🆔 Membership: ESSS Membership is required to participate.

On Monday, the Ethiopian Space Science Society (ESSS) and Cross U collaborated to organize a strategic high-level meeting hosted by the SSGI. The event focused on the creation of a sustainable ecosystem for space startups and businesses, fostering direct collaboration between Japanese commercial space companies, the government, and the private sector in Ethiopia.

The program was officially opened by Dr. Yeshrun Alemayehu, DDG of SSGI, Prof. Shinichi Nakasuka of Cross U, and Mr. Kirubel Menberu, Managing Director of ESSS. The session provided a unique platform for dialogue involving multiple stakeholders, including the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, JICA, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Jethi Software Development, and the GIS Society of Ethiopia. Additionally, delegates joining the discussion from other African space industries, such as CubeSpace, contributed to the regional perspective of the dialogue.
