This self-reliance exercise is mentally and emotionally demanding but is very interesting! It will quickly reveal the weakest spots in your preparedness.
The reality is that for the great majority of people, they would last literally a few days at best before being "completely hosed" and not knowing what to do next.
When this stark truth hits them, which it usually does very suddenly and when it's essentially too late to prepare - well, you can see why they were fighting over bathroom tissue in 2020!
For many people, health is the #1 survival factor. Being in the best health you can be in is really the most important focus because health issues make everything go sideways really fast in survival.
Financial matters are #2. Many survivalists neglect this, too. Money clearly can make numerous survival issues go away easily. But it can also bring new problems.
Even if you are in good health and good financial shape, most people simply go to the supermarket once a week and load up, without much thought being given to whether the shelves will be full next week. And we got a sharp taste of what can happen really fast when it dawns on people all at once that they might need more than one week's worth of supplies.
None of this is easy. It adds an extra layer of stress to a life that's already stressful enough just going from month to month.
But it's valuable. Even if you were to devote one evening per week to focusing on preparedness - learning new skills, increasing your self-reliance - you would be not only a few steps ahead of the majority but also in a position to be able to help others in time of need.
