NEAR Foundation Urges Wind-Down of USN Stablecoin, Sets Aside $40M

The foundation is setting aside $40 million for a "protection programme," which it says is equal to the amount of a "collateral gap" associated with the undercollateralization of the USN project.

"The NEAR Foundation is recommending that USN should wind down. The Foundation encourages DCB to do this at the earliest opportunity in a responsible and professional manner that protects all of its users," NEAR wrote.

"With the USN Protection Programme, NEAR Foundation understands that USN is now overcollateralized, as there is also approximately 5.7 million $NEAR tokens in the DCB treasury, which the foundation expects DCB to donate to the NEAR community," according to the statement.

USN is a NEAR-native stablecoin, which was created and launched by Decentral Bank (DCB) on in April.

Apple Issues New App Store Rules for Crypto and NFT Payments

Crypto-exchange apps need to have necessary regional licenses NFT sales have to go through Apple’s in-app purchase system

The Cupertino, California-based company has no issue with crypto exchanges or any other apps that allow the trading of digital tokens and currencies -- provided those exchanges have the requisite regional licenses to operate where the app is distributed.

But in order for apps to sell NFTs and related services, they’ll have to go through Apple’s in-app purchase systems and “may not include buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms other than in-app purchase.”

Apple charges a typical 30% fee on payments it handles.

Apple specifically guides against any app functionality that lets NFT holders “unlock features or functionality within the app,” which may have served as an oblique workaround to its payments rule. That may affect some NFT projects that use the token like a membership card, providing added perks and access not otherwise accessible.

Still, Apple will allow users to display, browse and share their NFT collection with others in apps across its iPhones and iPads.

#META released a report. Where it reported gigantic spending on its metaverse, and an increase in that spending next year. With the advertising market slowing down and Apple harassing it.

In total, META spent $9.4 billion on the development of the metaverse over 2022. How much is a lot, judge for yourself.

It cost $3.1 billion to make the top 10 most expensive movies in the world [incl. Pirates of the Caribbean and Marvel blockbusters, etc.].

The cost of developing the top 10 most expensive games in history was another $2.1-2.6 billion [incl. GTA IV, V, VI (with development costs varying from $500 million to $1B), Destiny, CoD, Battlefield 4, Cyberpunk 2077, etc.].

So META spent more in 2022 to develop its metaverse than all of that combined and will spend even more in 2023.
META is now capitalized at $263 billion [a year ago it was over $1T].

#AMZN did not report as well as expected, it was down 20% in the moment, losing $250B of capitalization. It now trades at $96 a share, making AMZN a company with a market cap of less than $1T.

#GOOGL was also down 10%. But so far it's holding above a trillion. Market Cap. - $1.2T.
