The Internet of Things (IoT) 🌐 has enabled us to connect with the world around us, unlike ever before.

But, according to #NUSComputing’s Asst. Prof. Ambuj Varshney, IoT devices are energy-expensive ⚡️ and require frequent battery replacements 🔋. This makes such devices costly and harmful to the environment.

Along with University of California, Berkeley’s Associate Professor Prabal Dutta and Yan Wenqing, a Ph.D. student at Uppsala University, Asst. Prof. Varshney has published a paper titled: “Judo: addressing the energy asymmetry of wireless embedded systems through tunnel diode based wireless transmitters.”

This represents a new step towards making battery-free devices a reality which would help make IoT devices smaller and more sustainable 🌳.
