Turini: Verstappen is a giant, Antonelli will become one too
After races like yesterday's Las Vegas Grand Prix, the well-known Italian journalist Leo Turrini can do nothing but rejoice at the successes of those who managed to stand out, and once again note that Ferrari continues to disappoint its fans...
Verstappen is a giant. Antonelli will soon become one too.
On Sunday Super Max confirmed it once again. I'm afraid that in 2025 he'll have to relinquish the championship throne, but in reality he is the one who deserves the title.
Kimi, our compatriot from Emilia‑Romagna, drove exceptionally well. Moreover, even the five‑second penalty, which I don't think was fair, didn't prevent him from finishing ahead of Charles Leclerc.
Certainly Antonelli still has a lot to learn, and of course he will make mistakes (let me remind you he didn't have the best qualifying).

Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko is pleased with the results of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen claimed a comfortable victory…
Helmut Marko: “Max put on a great show! I can't say he had a great start, but he got through the first corner better and effectively forced Norris into making a mistake. He didn't attack too aggressively, easily maintaining a gap to his rivals, which allowed him to save his tyres. We stayed out on track longer than anyone else.
Of course, we knew what condition the rivals' tyres were in. It was funny to hear McLaren's message to Norris: ‘Attack Max, overtake him.’ In response, Max started turning in one fastest lap after another, simply to make the point.
He did it easily and confidently. We had no problems, but Lando did at the end of the race, so he was lapping two to three seconds slower. Unfortunately, there was no one nearby who could have taken advantage of that.”

Las Vegas Grand Prix: Interesting statistics
A few interesting statistical calculations following the Las Vegas Grand Prix…
Qualifying
By winning qualifying in Vegas, Lando Norris took a third consecutive pole, his seventh of the season and the 16th of his career. The same number of career poles had Stirling Moss and Felipe Massa.
Max Verstappen qualified second and for the 84th time in his career started from the front row, for the fifth time this season sharing it with Norris.
Carlos Sainz made the top three for the second time this season (after Baku). This is Williams’ best result in Las Vegas since 1981, when the team occupied the entire front row at the 1981 Caesars Palace Grand Prix.
George Russell qualified fourth for the third time in the last four Grands Prix.
Oscar Piastri qualified outside the top three for the fourth consecutive time.

Alonso: When the season ends, it will be like a celebration.
Fernando Alonso failed to score points in Las Vegas — he finished 13th, despite starting seventh. But the Aston Martin team knew in advance that the high-speed street circuit would expose all the shortcomings of the AMR25, whose aerodynamic efficiency leaves much to be desired.
“We knew this was going to be one of our worst weekends,” the two-time world champion commented after the finish. “We couldn’t magically find extra pace on race day in Las Vegas, so we were losing positions. There were no incidents on track, and I spent that boring race on my own.
I can only remember one decent overtake (and it was a double move in which I simultaneously passed Yuki Tsunoda and Franco Colapinto). But people say it was really good, and I’m glad the fans saw on TV that I at least managed to overtake someone. Maybe it was my only pass of the whole race.

Toto Wolff: I'm not planning to go anywhere.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said that the sale of a 15% stake in the team to George Kurtz, the CEO and founder of CrowdStrike, will not affect his role or status...
Toto Wolff: "I have no plans to sell the remaining shares or to leave my post. I am in a good position and I enjoy it. And as long as I feel I am contributing, and others believe I am contributing, there is no reason to think otherwise.
I sold some of my shares to George — a racing driver, a tech entrepreneur and a man who will help us conquer the US market. That's all, nothing more.
If someone had told us five years ago how much the team would be worth, we would never have believed it. But it's simply an extrapolation of team profitability. Because of the cost cap our business has changed radically; we stopped spending money recklessly and were able to increase revenues and turnover.

Laurent Mekies: Max's race can be called a masterclass.
After the finish of the race in Las Vegas, Laurent Mekies, head of Red Bull Racing, praised the achievement of Max Verstappen and the whole team, calling the four-time world champion’s performance “a masterclass.”
Laurent Mekies: “Max’s race in Las Vegas can be called another masterclass in his execution! To be honest, I believe the team also worked almost perfectly, so we have reason to be proud. The car allowed us to run a high pace, although this weekend no one had the chance to properly prepare for the Grand Prix, as various kinds of issues arose during all three practice sessions.
We also managed to find a pretty good approach to the tyres, and Max had no trouble managing their wear.

James Worton will make his Formula 2 debut at the Qatar round with the Trident team. This year the Australian completed his first season in Formula 3, finishing 18th and taking one victory.
James Worton: "I am incredibly grateful to Trident Motorsport for the opportunity to compete in Formula 2. It is a huge step in my career. A new challenge awaits me — a more powerful car, longer races, greater tyre wear and pit stops. I have a lot to learn, and I will do my best to make the most of this opportunity.
Although I will not be racing in Formula 2 next year, it is a great chance to learn something new and achieve a good result."

George Russell was unable to repeat his domination in Vegas from last year, but he is satisfied with the race result…
Question: George, great job. It seems you had some issue for most of the race. What was it?
George Russell: About five laps after the start the same steering issue that happened the day before appeared. I got it under control after roughly four more laps.
The pace in the first stint was not bad. I had a good start, I was only a tenth behind Max in the opening stint. Then, after the pit stop, I saw an opportunity to push and attacked very hard for two laps, killing my tyres. To be honest, it wasn't very pleasant — I simply couldn't get through the left-hand corners.
Question: If you hadn't attacked Max so aggressively in the early laps of the second stint, could you have overtaken Lando?
George Russell: Honestly, I don't know. I wanted to fight for the win and I saw a small opportunity. I hoped Max would have problems on the pit-exit lap, and I had to take the risk. I don't regret anything. But the race was tough.
Question: Given last year's results, Mercedes expected a lot from this weekend. Are you happy with the car's pace?
George Russell: This year we have a stable car; we perform at roughly the same level at all tracks. Last year our car was either exceptionally strong or exceptionally weak, so the team had more standout moments, but we scored fewer points last year.
Of course you want to win races, but ultimately the goal is to score as many points as possible over the season. And this year the car gives us significantly more opportunities to achieve that goal than 12 months ago.
Question: The balance between sport and show during the Las Vegas Grand Prix has been a topic of discussion. Do you think it's all right now?
George Russell: This time the weekend was very enjoyable, the organisers did a good job. Over three years the event has evolved. The main challenges here are tied to the time zone — not just for us, but for the thousands of people who come to the race. It would be better if it were a standalone event rather than part of a run of consecutive races. But in any case, a night race in Las Vegas is very tough.

Marko predicts that race victories will come "only late next season."
"Provided we’re not entirely out of the running..."
Red Bull is publicly managing expectations for the inaugural year of Formula 1’s new 2026 regulations, with Dr. Helmut Marko acknowledging that the team’s newly developed in-house engine, in collaboration with Ford, is not expected to be a front-runner immediately. This engine will make its debut in a season characterized by significant technical changes, including lighter cars, active aerodynamics, substantial increases in the energy recovery system, sustainable fuels, and a complete overhaul of the chassis design.
Speaking in Las Vegas, Red Bull’s chief engineer Paul Monaghan highlighted the magnitude of the challenge. "Ten weeks - yeah, that’s quite shocking, isn’t it?" he remarked regarding the countdown to pre-season testing. "We’re also adopting a new engine.

At last: The 'Baby' G-Class from Mercedes-Benz Caught Testing for the First Time
Receive Spyglass: Your insider scoop, delivered right to your inbox
Your exclusive preview of upcoming vehicles and hidden prototypes, directly from our spy photographer.
Just last month, Mercedes hinted that the new junior G-Class would be revealed “very soon.” Today, we have the first spy images of this smaller off-road SUV, which we anticipate will begin production in time for the 2027 model year. These two prototypes were seen being loaded onto a transporter in Germany, and thanks to the nearby vehicles, we’re getting our first impression of its compact size.
In short: Very compact. At certain angles, the baby G could easily be mistaken for a fully electric Kia Soul (or, if I may say, a Scion xB?).

Mick Schumacher officially announced his plans for 2026.
Mick Schumacher today announced his plans for next season. As expected, he will spend it in the IndyCar series, where he will also race on ovals, in particular taking part in the Indy 500, with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Mick Schumacher: "I'm pleased to confirm that next year I will compete in IndyCar with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, participating in the full season.
Having raced in Formula 1 and in endurance events, and having competed in various racing series over many years, I have the knowledge and experience that, I am sure, will contribute to a great partnership. The team has already prepared me very well during testing, and I'm confident that together we can achieve a lot.
I was immediately excited by the car and the American approach to motorsport, which, I think, is more focused on pure racing, and it is that aspect I really like.

Minardi: We're in for a fantastic end to the season.
In a column on his official website, former team owner Giancarlo Minardi summed up the Las Vegas Grand Prix…
Giancarlo Minardi: "The plot twist in Las Vegas was worthy of the best thrillers, if not horror films for Norris and Piastri — with McLaren's double disqualification after the race for plank wear. Now the title fight involves not only them but also Max Verstappen, who became the main protagonist of the race, in which he not only held on to the lead but sent a convincing message to his rivals by consistently posting the fastest times on the final laps.
Lando had to ease off at the end of the race to avoid a penalty for excessive plank wear, and in the end he finished twenty seconds adrift.
Kimi Antonelli performed excellently.

Pirelli has finalized the tyre compounds for 2026.
Pirelli has selected the tyre compounds for the 2026 season, which will be homologated on 15 December as required by the regulations. The tyre construction was homologated on 1 September after a thorough assessment of axle balance taking into account the active aerodynamics that will be introduced next year. Tyre development was based on data provided by the teams, using simulations related to the loads and speeds forecast for the end of the 2026 season, while pursuing the same objectives as this year. Tyre prototypes were checked during track tests on cars modified to reproduce the characteristics of next-generation machinery. This complicated the tests, as it was not possible to test the tyres on real 2026 cars designed for the slightly narrower 18‑inch tyres than the current ones.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix does not have its own promoter; this race was created by the American owners of Formula 1, who are pleased that the weekend was sold out — more than 300,000 fans attended over the three days.
Emily Preiser, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula 1 and head of Las Vegas Grand Prix Inc.: “We are incredibly proud that the Las Vegas Grand Prix was a sell-out. We showed the world Formula 1 at its best.
We have taken guest service to a new level and created iconic cultural moments that can only happen in Las Vegas, while staying true to the main event — the race.”

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said that the Qatar Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend, underscores the growing influence of countries of the Middle East on the World Championship.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem: "The Qatar Grand Prix is more than just a race. It is a symbol of the country's aspiration not only to host motorsport but also to develop it from grassroots to a world-class level. This Grand Prix reaffirms our confidence in the Middle East and the important role this region plays in the championship calendar."

Conditions for the championship title competition in Qatar
With two rounds to go in the season, Lando Norris leads the drivers' championship by 24 points over Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen. In that scenario, the title could be decided this Sunday at the Qatar Grand Prix.
The penultimate round at the Losail circuit will feature a Saturday sprint, however the title will definitely not be settled as a result of the sprint. If Norris were to win the sprint while Piastri and Verstappen scored no points, Lando's lead would grow to 32 points, whereas 50 points are available across the Sunday race and Abu Dhabi combined, which leaves Max and Oscar hope of continuing the fight.
To guarantee the title in Qatar, Lando Norris must gain at least two points on his rivals. He would then arrive in Abu Dhabi with a 26-point lead in the drivers' championship and be unreachable for his pursuers.

Felipe Drugovich served as Aston Martin’s reserve driver for three seasons, but the recent Las Vegas Grand Prix was his last in that role. The parties have ended their cooperation, wishing each other success in the future.
“We warmly say goodbye to Felipe Drugovich, who spent three years with the team and leaves us after this weekend,” Aston Martin’s press office said. “We wish him all the best for the future.”
The Brazilian driver left this message on social media: “I’m grateful for these three years. I learned a lot, and we shared many great moments. There were some difficulties at times, but we’ll remember only the good and leave the bad behind. The chapter has come to an end, and it’s time to move on. Thank you very much, guys.”
Felipe Drugovich will continue his career in Formula E. In the new season of the electric series he will race for the Andretti team.

Komatsu: It's important to have a productive training session.
Haas F1 hope to perform well in Qatar and hold on to seventh place in the Constructors' Championship...
Aio Komatsu, team principal: “There are two final rounds in the Middle East ahead of us, the first of which is a weekend with a Saturday sprint in Qatar. There’s a close fight in the Constructors’ Championship, so it’s important to have a productive Friday practice to earn the points that matter to the team.
We’ll face very different conditions to Vegas, and a sprint weekend places additional restrictions on tyre usage. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to maximise our potential in the final stage of this incredible season.”
Oliver Bearman: “The track in Qatar suits our car much better; I’m really looking forward to this weekend. These cars come alive on tracks like that.

Imola may replace the Madrid round in 2026.
Next season Formula 1 is supposed to hold a debut race at the MadRing circuit, which is being built in the capital of Spain. However, in the Formula 1 paddock rumors have begun to circulate that cast doubt on the possibility of holding the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid in September 2026.
According to leaks from Liberty Media, the organizers are far behind the planned construction schedule for the circuit, and Formula 1 is already looking for alternative venues for the Grand Prix. Among the favorites is the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Autodrome in Imola. If a replacement occurs, Formula 1 would hold two consecutive races in Italy in September one week apart — in Monza and Imola.
Journalists from RMC Motori, during a business trip to Madrid on November 20, visited the MadRing construction site and were convinced that the rumors about construction delays are by no means exaggerated.

Jos Verstappen: Pressure at McLaren has reached its limit
The next two weeks will decide the fate of the championship title. The pressure is mounting, and the driver's father, Jos Verstappen, in an interview with the Dutch press, decided to add fuel to the fire by criticizing McLaren…
Jos Verstappen: "The pressure at McLaren has reached its limit, and they feel it. They have an advantage that still needs to be realized, but if Max wins the remaining races and Lando is second every time, Norris will become world champion.
But Oscar Piastri is still in the fight, and he is unlikely to give up willingly. On track there is a clear difference between the two McLaren cars, especially in how they take corners. One slides, the other doesn’t, and that also raises questions.
The skid block wear happened because they made a serious mistake. It’s a massive blunder on McLaren’s part.
