McLaren apologized to its drivers.
After the FIA's official documents on the disqualification of both McLaren cars were made public, the team issued a statement in which its management also apologized to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Andrea Stella, team principal: "After the Las Vegas Grand Prix it became clear that we breached Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations, which requires the skid plank thickness to be at least 9 mm. On car No. 4, at the rearmost part of the skid plank it measured 0.12 mm below that minimum, and on car No. 81 it was 0.26 mm below.
During the race both cars experienced unexpectedly intense vertical oscillation (porpoising), which did not appear during practice, and this caused excessively strong contacts with the track surface.

McLaren's 'hara-kiri' decision throws the title race into disarray.
The Formula 1 championship battle has been significantly reignited following the disqualifications of both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri from the Las Vegas GP due to excessive wear on the plank. Just hours after the race concluded, FIA officials determined that both McLaren cars had violated the minimum thickness standard, cutting Norris' lead over Max Verstappen from 42 points down to just 24, with two grand prix and a sprint event still remaining. Verstappen is now tied on points with Piastri.
"Max Verstappen’s influence suddenly looms much larger," noted Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport. La Repubblica commented that "McLaren has committed hara-kiri in Las Vegas," while Austria’s Kurier speculated that "0.12 millimeters could determine the World Championship.

Aston Martin remains silent regarding rumors of Cowell's potential dismissal.
"The emphasis is on enhancing performance"
Aston Martin is not denying the increasing speculation regarding the uncertainty of team principal Andy Cowell’s position after a chaotic time within the technical department. A representative from Aston Martin stated: "The team will not be participating in rumors or speculation. The emphasis is on enhancing performance in the upcoming races and preparing for 2026."
Following the chequered flag in Las Vegas, British media quickly associated Christian Horner with the position—a move that would reunite him with Adrian Newey. However, many insiders are skeptical, given ongoing claims that part of Newey’s Red Bull departure was due to tensions with Horner, who was subsequently removed from his role.

Alonso criticizes Vegas and the schedule, while the F1 CEO supports the event.
Fernando Alonso has expressed strong criticism regarding Formula 1's Las Vegas Grand Prix, focusing on the track surface and its timing on the calendar, which has been met with a measured response from F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. In an interview with Spain’s AS, Alonso stated that the 6.2km 'Strip Circuit' has significant flaws despite its high-speed design.
"The circuit is enjoyable due to its speed. However, the asphalt does not meet Formula 1 standards," said the seasoned driver. "It’s excessively slippery, we struggle to bring the tyres to the appropriate temperature, there’s a lack of grip, and the surface is extremely bumpy. Racing here is nearly unsafe. We need to discuss with the FIA about its acceptability for future years.

Only three weeks remain until the official FIA Awards 2025 ceremony recognizing the season’s results, which this year will take place in Tashkent.
The top representatives of the series held under the FIA’s auspices — from karting to Formula 1 — will gather in the capital of Uzbekistan to receive prizes and championship trophies.
The FIA will broadcast the ceremony on social media, including on its official YouTube page. The broadcast begins at 21:00 Moscow time.

The FIA considers the marshals' actions to be correct.
After the Las Vegas Grand Prix the FIA was again criticized over the marshals' conduct. In Mexico Liam Lawson nearly hit two marshals who ran across the track in front of his car. In Vegas marshals went onto the track to clear debris after an incident at the first corner and were forced to run for cover when they saw Max Verstappen's car.
Former FIA race director Niels Wittich on Sky Sport called the situation unacceptable…
Niels Wittich: "This should not have happened. There is a specific procedure, especially at the first corner at the start, when marshals are on heightened alert and go out to clear debris as soon as the last car has passed. But in Vegas for some reason it took much longer.
Cars had time to complete a lap and were approaching the first corner again – in such a situation double yellow flags are no longer sufficient.

Penalty points after the Las Vegas Grand Prix
The FIA uses a penalty points system on the superlicence to reduce the number of offences. Each infringement is punished with a certain number of points; their total over 12 months must not exceed twelve — otherwise the driver is suspended for one race, which happened in 2024 to Kevin Magnussen. Penalty points expire 12 months after they are awarded.
The next points will expire on December 1 — immediately after the Qatar Grand Prix — these are one point for Verstappen, two points for Albon and Lawson, and three points for Norris, received during last year’s race in Qatar.
After the Las Vegas Grand Prix, sixteen current drivers have unexpired penalty points. The leader in their number is Oliver Bearman.

Jos: McLaren will become 'more anxious' for the title clash.
"They can't afford anything more at this point."
Max Verstappen's father and co-manager stated that the shocking disqualifications in Las Vegas have provided his son with a renewed momentum, and he believes that McLaren will now feel an increased amount of pressure in the upcoming two race weekends. "The championship race isn't entirely open yet, but it is somewhat more accessible," Jos Verstappen told the Dutch magazine Formule 1 when asked about Lando Norris's exclusion from the official results on Sunday. "This certainly represents a significant stroke of luck for Max, no doubt about it."
Jos mentioned that the happenings in Vegas, along with McLaren’s late-race radio message telling Norris to "go and get Max," will only enhance the Red Bull driver's mentality. "This feeds Max with additional positive energy," he stated.

Vaulz: Most importantly, our pace allowed us to compete for points.
James Vowles, Williams' team principal, summed up the team's performance in Las Vegas, which was clearly mixed: while Carlos Sainz scored 10 points for fifth place at the 22nd round of the season, his teammate did not make it to the finish.
James Vowles: "So, the Las Vegas Grand Prix is behind us. I want to stress that Carlos achieved the maximum possible result we could have expected, getting everything out of the car. The car's actual pace would have allowed a seventh-place finish, and we had a decent advantage over all the other drivers running in the middle of the pack — it was around 10–11 seconds.
We lacked the pace to fight for higher positions, but Carlos deserves praise, because this weekend he handled his tasks very well.

Turini: Verstappen is a giant, Antonelli will become one too
After races like yesterday's Las Vegas Grand Prix, the well-known Italian journalist Leo Turrini can do nothing but rejoice at the successes of those who managed to stand out, and once again note that Ferrari continues to disappoint its fans...
Verstappen is a giant. Antonelli will soon become one too.
On Sunday Super Max confirmed it once again. I'm afraid that in 2025 he'll have to relinquish the championship throne, but in reality he is the one who deserves the title.
Kimi, our compatriot from Emilia‑Romagna, drove exceptionally well. Moreover, even the five‑second penalty, which I don't think was fair, didn't prevent him from finishing ahead of Charles Leclerc.
Certainly Antonelli still has a lot to learn, and of course he will make mistakes (let me remind you he didn't have the best qualifying).

Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko is pleased with the results of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen claimed a comfortable victory…
Helmut Marko: “Max put on a great show! I can't say he had a great start, but he got through the first corner better and effectively forced Norris into making a mistake. He didn't attack too aggressively, easily maintaining a gap to his rivals, which allowed him to save his tyres. We stayed out on track longer than anyone else.
Of course, we knew what condition the rivals' tyres were in. It was funny to hear McLaren's message to Norris: ‘Attack Max, overtake him.’ In response, Max started turning in one fastest lap after another, simply to make the point.
He did it easily and confidently. We had no problems, but Lando did at the end of the race, so he was lapping two to three seconds slower. Unfortunately, there was no one nearby who could have taken advantage of that.”

Las Vegas Grand Prix: Interesting statistics
A few interesting statistical calculations following the Las Vegas Grand Prix…
Qualifying
By winning qualifying in Vegas, Lando Norris took a third consecutive pole, his seventh of the season and the 16th of his career. The same number of career poles had Stirling Moss and Felipe Massa.
Max Verstappen qualified second and for the 84th time in his career started from the front row, for the fifth time this season sharing it with Norris.
Carlos Sainz made the top three for the second time this season (after Baku). This is Williams’ best result in Las Vegas since 1981, when the team occupied the entire front row at the 1981 Caesars Palace Grand Prix.
George Russell qualified fourth for the third time in the last four Grands Prix.
Oscar Piastri qualified outside the top three for the fourth consecutive time.

Alonso: When the season ends, it will be like a celebration.
Fernando Alonso failed to score points in Las Vegas — he finished 13th, despite starting seventh. But the Aston Martin team knew in advance that the high-speed street circuit would expose all the shortcomings of the AMR25, whose aerodynamic efficiency leaves much to be desired.
“We knew this was going to be one of our worst weekends,” the two-time world champion commented after the finish. “We couldn’t magically find extra pace on race day in Las Vegas, so we were losing positions. There were no incidents on track, and I spent that boring race on my own.
I can only remember one decent overtake (and it was a double move in which I simultaneously passed Yuki Tsunoda and Franco Colapinto). But people say it was really good, and I’m glad the fans saw on TV that I at least managed to overtake someone. Maybe it was my only pass of the whole race.

Toto Wolff: I'm not planning to go anywhere.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said that the sale of a 15% stake in the team to George Kurtz, the CEO and founder of CrowdStrike, will not affect his role or status...
Toto Wolff: "I have no plans to sell the remaining shares or to leave my post. I am in a good position and I enjoy it. And as long as I feel I am contributing, and others believe I am contributing, there is no reason to think otherwise.
I sold some of my shares to George — a racing driver, a tech entrepreneur and a man who will help us conquer the US market. That's all, nothing more.
If someone had told us five years ago how much the team would be worth, we would never have believed it. But it's simply an extrapolation of team profitability. Because of the cost cap our business has changed radically; we stopped spending money recklessly and were able to increase revenues and turnover.
