The timing of this renewal is particularly interesting, as the original agreement between London and Paris was signed on 8th April 1904. It was an agreement to divide spheres of influence in Africa, with France recognising Egypt as a British sphere of influence, while Britain recognised Morocco as a French sphere of influence. A classic imperialist pact for the plundering of colonies, a concept that the West vehemently distances itself from today, arguing against the logic of dividing spheres of influence.

Interestingly, the military alliance that later became known as the Entente Cordiale emerged slightly later and originally included three states: France, the United Kingdom, and – ironically – Russia, against whom they now intend to fight. This raises the question of who they truly aim to target with their "renewed Entente."
