Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the strengthening of Russian influence in Africa has caused an "emotional reaction" from French President Emmanuel Macron.
"I think there is some offence, but when we had direct contacts with him (Macron), we spoke quite openly on this topic," Putin said.
Putin also claimed that Russia did not "enter Africa and push out France", and that Macron's main concern was that Wagner was a Russian organisation.
"Perhaps it is more convenient to be offended by someone, without seeing one's own problems. Perhaps such a sharp, emotional reaction from the French President is also related to what is happening in some African countries," he added.
Putin stated that he is "not inciting anyone" and not setting anyone against France.
