The military operation of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip is "excessive", said US President Joe Biden.
According to the President, the number of civilian casualties has risen sharply during the conflict and therefore it is necessary to end the conflict.
"Many innocent people are starving. And it needs to stop", Biden stated.
The US President also added that he is putting pressure on Israel to reach a compromise agreement with Hamas.
According to him, mutual exchange of prisoners and hostages will allow to conclude a long-term truce.
Biden's statement came amid Israeli army preparations to launch a military operation in the town of Rafah in the western Gaza Strip.

State Department comments on information about transfer of military equipment from Ecuador
Soviet-made weapons that Ecuador plans to transfer to the United States in exchange for new military equipment may be sent to Ukraine, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Kevin Sullivan has said.
"The decision to transfer the equipment to Ukraine is a decision of the Ecuadorian government and it is still under consideration", the diplomat said in an interview with Ecuadorian TV channel Teleamazonas.
