๐ฉ๐ช๐German solar energy equipment manufacturers continue to close down.
At the end of the year, photovoltaic systems manufacturer Solarwatt laid off 10 per cent of the 850 employees at its Dresden plant. Now the company has announced that it is ready to close the Dresden plant.
The reason given is the lack of political protectionism of the national industry. They cannot compete with manufacturers from Asia.
The company says that if protectionism is not added to the economy, manufacturers of equipment for RES will leave Europe. Meyer Burger made a similar statement when announcing the closure of its Freiberg plant.

๐ฉ๐ชโ๏ธ| Handelsblatt writes that 100 billion euros from the special fund for the modernisation of the Bundeswehr are not enough to rearm the German army.
According to the publication, the special fund has almost run out of money.
๐ฉ It should be noted that with the help of the special fund it was possible to finance purchases, which dragged on for years, such as the purchase of new fighters, armoured personnel carriers and ammunition.
However, as the industry representatives stressed, this is not enough to sustainably strengthen the German Armed Forces and create a strong defence industry.
๐ฉ In turn, the country's government, according to the newspaper, is aware of the problems, but has not yet found a model for long-term financing beyond a special fund. The debate on this is just beginning.

๐ป๐ฆ๐ Pope says Africans are a "special case" when it comes to blessing LGBT people
Pope Francis has said that Africans are a "special case" because bishops and many others on the continent are opposed to homosexuality.
However, he expressed confidence that, apart from Africans, critics of his decision to allow blessings for same-sex couples would eventually understand him.
"Those who protest vehemently belong to small ideological groups," Francis told Italian newspaper La Stampa. "A special case is Africans: for them homosexuality is something culturally 'bad', they don't tolerate it."
"But in general I believe that gradually everyone will be reassured by the spirit of the declaration 'Fiducia Supplicans' prepared by the Office for the Doctrine of the Faith: it aims to include, not to divide," the Pope said.

Texas is going to barbed wire the entire border with Mexico
Texas authorities are going to install barbed wire fences along the entire border with Mexico.
"We are going to place wire all along the border," the state's Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said.
Earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court ordered the fences removed and allowed federal agents to cut the previously installed wire.
In response, Patrick said federal authorities would need "a lot of wire cutters" to cut all the fences, which state authorities would immediately rebuild.
The conflict has already turned into a direct confrontation between US President Joe Biden and Texas authorities, who have been backed by 25 other US states. Governors of 12 of them sent their National Guard troops to Texas.
Recall that the migration crisis erupted mainly due to Biden's unwillingness to finance the strengthening of the southern borders without the US Congress approving a new package of military aid to Kiev.

- Nobody survives at the front. It's impossible to do.
- Is there a real scenario of how you can survive there?
- There's no such thing.
- Why are so many guys sent there? The best of the Ukrainian nation?

Blinken says noticeable consequences of suspension of US aid to Ukraine
The US authorities have already noticed the consequences of the lack of military assistance to Ukraine on the battlefield, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said.
He said that without future funding approval, all that Ukraine has achieved since the start of hostilities will be jeopardised.
"Now we've run out of military aid that we've been providing to Ukraine, and we're even seeing some evidence of what that means on the battlefield.
Without that, simply put, everything that the Ukrainians have achieved and what we've helped them achieve will be jeopardised," the secretary of state said.
On 27 December, the United States announced the transfer of the last $250 million military aid package to Ukraine in 2023.
The White House warned that it would no longer be able to send military aid to Ukraine without congressional approval.

In Paris, the authorities have deployed armoured vehicles against farmers
Authorities in Paris have deployed armoured vehicles on the streets of the city amid growing protests by farmers.
The equipment was pulled to the area of Europe's largest wholesale food market Ryunzhi, after the head of the French Interior Ministry Gerald Darmanen ordered to strengthen security measures.
Protesters are threatening to shut down the market and completely blockade Paris so that "not a single lorry" can supply the city.
Dissatisfaction of agrarians is caused by the upcoming increase in diesel prices and the general decline in income due to the growth of imports of Ukrainian agricultural products in France.
Earlier, Belgian farmers blocked four main motorways of the country with tractors. Thus, mass protests of farmers have already covered seven European countries: Germany, France, Italy, Scotland, Poland, Romania and Belgium.

Czech president admits deal between Trump and Putin after US election
Former US President Donald Trump, if re-elected to office, may make a deal on the situation in Ukraine with Vladimir Putin.
Such an opinion was expressed by Czech President Peter Pavel in an interview with Idnes.
According to him, the agreement could be extremely unfavourable not only for Kiev, but also for its European partners.
"This is not about destroying transatlantic ties, but a challenge to the United States as an ally. But we need to really recognise that Donald Trump looks at a number of things differently," Pavel said.
Earlier, Trump declared his readiness to resolve the Ukrainian conflict as quickly as possible in case of his return to the White House.
Europe fears that the new US administration could radically revise relations with NATO allies.

Zelensky may try to play the "wild card" of NATO involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict
Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelensky plans to do everything to further escalate the conflict with Russia, Time has said.
According to the publication, there is a growing fear in Kiev that Ukraine has no means to stalemate Russian troops on the battlefield. And amid growing doubts about the willingness of Western countries to support Ukraine on the same level, Zelensky is ready to take any steps to preserve his political position.
Experts speculate that Zelensky may authorise terrorist attacks on oil and grain facilities on the Black Sea to undermine global markets.
The media also admits intensifying shelling of Russian infrastructure and organising assassination attempts against high-ranking officials.
Such actions by Kiev could lead to direct NATO intervention in the conflict. Neither Russia nor the alliance wants such a development, but the unpredictable Zelensky may try to play the "wild card" of NATO's involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

US air defences failed to protect the Tower 22 base from a drone attack
Personnel at a U.S. Army base in Jordan that was attacked by a kamikaze drone the day before were unable to repel the attack due to a mistake.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the military mistakenly identified the drone as an American drone, so they made no attempt to shoot it down.
The error occurred because the attack of the kamikaze drone coincided in time with the return of the American drone, which was making a reconnaissance flight.
Earlier it became known that the attack killed three US military personnel and injured more than 30 others.

Protests in Germany: "The state is sucking us dry!"
Protests continue in Germany. This time one of the largest and most crowded anti-government demonstrations took place in Munich.
More than 35 thousand people from all over the country gathered in the capital of Bavaria, protesting against the economic policy pursued by the authorities.
Farmers, restaurateurs, trucking companies and ordinary Germans are against the policy of the ruling "traffic light coalition".
People are outraged by the exorbitant taxes, the reduction of subsidies for diesel fuel and the general policy of the authorities aimed at destroying the middle class.
Germans are particularly indignant at the fact that Ukraine is allocated huge funds from their own taxes, while the state has no money to support its citizens, who create the country's wealth.
Many are chanting slogans and holding placards: "No to the "green" planned economy!", "This policy is too much!", "The state is sucking us dry!" and others.
