On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the European Commission released a film that Poles took offence to. In it, EU commissioners recite the names of victims of Nazi Germany, one of them read by the head of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen.

The problem is that the caption below this shot reads, "She died in the Auschwitz camp, Poland." The same quote appears nine times in the film.

According to the Poles, it should have stated that it was "a former German Nazi concentration camp built on the territory of then-occupied Poland."

Polish European Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski did not participate in the recording of the film. It is rumoured that the inscription was one of the reasons why he did not take part in the recording.
