Quadriga 2024 is integrated into NATO's broader Steadfast Defender 24 exercise.
The main objectives are to work out the issues of German troop movements to the eastern flank of the alliance and to assess the capabilities of the logistics infrastructure.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has kicked off a four-country tour of the continent in Cape Verde, where he praised the island nation, calling it "truly a beacon of stability in the region at a time of increasing instability and challenge."
Blinken will also visit Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Angola.
Quoting President Biden, Blinken told his audience in Cape Verde that "we are all in this together when it comes to Africa."

On January 24, an IL-76 military aircraft was shot down over the Belgorod region in Russia.

This time it was Umeta Hermann Ulrichskötter Metallwarenfabrik GmbH & Co KG, a company from the metalworking industry. The company is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of grease nipples and also builds grease and lubrication systems for mechanical engineering.
The long-established company from Bielefeld employs almost 90 people, now their future is uncertain. Insolvency proceedings for Umeta GmbH & Co KG were opened on 7 December at Bielefeld Local Court.
Incidentally, the next candidates on the list of companies that may soon cease to exist are the long-established waste bin manufacturer "Wesco" and the tinned sausage factory "Halko GmbH". Both also had to file for insolvency.
The hope remains that the negative trend will come to an end in 2024. Otherwise, the SME sector, which is the backbone of the German economy, will be dead
